The 2009 Nurburgring Run.....

Just me and the Mrs in our group! Meeting a couple of pals that are dropping in after doing a trackday at spa but we're only there one night.

To add to that, we got;
1x E36 M3 (purple)
1x 996 911 C2S (silver)
1x Z4C 3.0Si (mine!)
1x Elise S1

Will be a good weekend! Afaik it only opens as a 'public' road in the afternoon on that day?

Everyone still going? I've had to delay my outbound - so won't be on the ferry until Saturday morning, but the track doesn't open until the afternoon on Saturday anyway....

Looking forward to seeing a few Z4s out there. Don't forget to come say hi!

Shoot, wish I could go.

Hey, fellas on this side of the pond, who we gotta bribe to get on VIR? :driving:

Well sixspeed - I saw you there on the Sunday! Although went to try and find you/your car however it looked like you had left. I was parked for most of the day near the entrance to the ring, as they kept closing the track for crashes so I had to wait for my opportunities to get out onto it...

Excellent day, however very busy!

Also saw a silver Z4 Coupe, and a white Z4M Coupe on german plates.

I saw a black '07' UK plated Z4MC but that was the only UK coupe I could spot. Had a nightmare getting on track on the Sunday - a huge amount of accidents/closures. Monday was much better, so glad we stayed the extra day.

Have to take you out next time I guess! Glad you had a good day though! :)

We've just returned from the ring trip and 2 weeks driving round Europe too.

I saw the german coupe with stripes and White wheels and the 07 plate mentioned above. We left at about 12.30 on Sunday and I think we spotted sixspeed just on the approach to the ring from the adenau side?

Got 4.5 laps in anyway. Got to the track for 8.00 on Sunday morning to make sure I got them in as Saturday afternoon was very crashy.

I have just booked a trip on the weekend of the 17th July if anybody intrested?

Cars so far?

1 x Z4MC
1 X GTR
1 X 350Z
1 X Renault R26

It is the weekend of the VLM which if anything like last year when the track was open to the public it was a lot quieter. Also great to watch the racing in between.

The more the better. Would be great to se a few Z4MC/R

You should also have a nice layer of rubber on the track. We went after VLN last year and it was very grippy!

Dont expect it to be quiet though!

Going out again this weekend, driving an E92 M3 I've obtained for a week.... :D Probably a bit late notice for anyone to tag along, but just thought I'd mention it in case! ;)

I will see you down there as I am going down in a GTR.
Sadly not mine but a mates, either way will be interesting. See you for a beer or 10?

Something I found on t'internet, a guide to the Nurburgring and how to drive the ideal line, might be of interest to some...

Right.... enough of the suspense, how did the m3 fare compared to the MC?

LOL

Feeling too lazy to write an essay on it, but in a nutshell...

I wasn't expecting much tbh, after a few hours I grew quite fond of it (and the engine), stayed quiet enamoured with it for a most of a week. But having now had it a week or so, and done 1000+ miles to the Ring and back in it..... I want my MC back. :D

It's very capable, probably a great daily driver, but I wouldn't swap it for the MC. Less sense of occasion, and although a stonker of an engine (be good in a Z4!), it's still a 3-series.

Interesting to hear you were looking forward to get back in the MC considering the power difference. Park lane have been trying to flog me one for a while and i specifically refused to test drive one for fear of walking out of there with a big hole in my pocket. Maybe my fears are unfounded ha!!

Agree, the MC would probably feels more of an occasion, especially with the that fattened M3. BMW need to drop that v8 into the zed - they must do surely!!!! I'm sure a market for it exists,

Thanks for your thoughts.

I think you could quickly fall for one if you only got a few hours in it... there'd be the novelty value at least from driving something new, and the M3 (compared to the Z) has lots of those instant ooh and wow features that can quickly win you over. Once you get past them though, and live with it for a while, at least in my experience, I've just found I want my MC back. It's not like I can't get out of the M3 quickly enough, but it hasn't astounded me enough to consider one as a replacement/alternative.

Maybe if I could afford to run one during the week and keep the Z for weekends though.... :P

It's far far far too expensive when compared to the E46 m3s and other options like 911s etc. I wouldn't mind a 4 door as i have the mc and a Jeep (for carrying the wife/dog/child etc). It would be cheaper to have one car but they're just soooo pricy.
