Bloody weather, lovely over the weekend , then monsoons for the last 24 hrs. Have declared winter and put the hardtop on. It can rain as much as it likes now. :D
 
What’s the benefit/attraction of the hard top? The Z4 roof is pretty well lined and it’s not noisy. I could understand it when my brother got one for his VX220, but the Z4 roof is pretty good. Or is it a matter of protecting the roof from frost, rain and snow?

Genuine question - I'm just interested.

PS. I usually drive my car with the roof off. It's the only way! :driving:
 
Mine lives outside 24/7 and diesn't get used in thw week, so I like to protect it when the weather turns crap. Also, the rain misses out the normal roof drains with the hardtop, so I rekon I'm not soaking my roof motor every winter thus savingit for a longer life. Drive the Z with a hardtop on and it is pretty noisy without it.
 
The hardtop on the roadster gives the zed a completely different look thus i used to look forward to putting the H/top on for the winter months :thumbsup:
 
I don't like the look of the OEM hardtop to be honest... it just looks wrong. I prefer the French one that makes it look like a Z4C :-)
but those aren't cheap :cry:

You can get a bargain once in a while for maybe £750 ; peak winter season they seem to go for about £900. Pretty stable prices. Not a bad investment considering a new roof motor installed can be £600+. Mind you, you want to make sure the motor has been changed, otherwise that calculation could be worthless... As Adamski says though, keeps all the crap off during winter.

If you manage to take it out of course, eh Adamski :wink:
 
Hardtop's - a great addition for the Roadster

Only downside is that they can be a pain to adjust...

i only take the hardtop off when i expect a few days of good sun. makes the cabin a much more plesant environment during the winter months
 
Afraid I don't really get the hardtop thing on e85... To my eyes the lines don't look quite right, a bit awkward & in the (admittedly brief) ride in one with hard too on I didn't notice any difference noise wise... Mine lived thru 3 winters outdoors with no soft top issues that wouldn't wash off with a hose in spring either...
