Hi all -just nearly washed my car key  -just closed the door and was about to press the buttons, when i thought i dont remember taking my key out my pocket!

Oh my, that would have likely been an expensive mistake! I wonder what the chances would be of being able to dry it out after a full wash cycle and have it work successfully?

Good catch! Consider buying a lottery ticket. :)

An Andy special worry thread about something that has NOT happened to him

Have to admit that mine has been through a full wash cycle. Was very clean after! And still works

It dried out and worked just fine...

Yep did it with my Keyless entry kuga key... it did not work :( after drying out and sitting it under a hair dryer for 30 mins... still not working :tumbleweed: left it in a box of rice for a week and it worked..... :D

Is that a recommendation Dr Nick? As my keys are very dirty and I didn't know how to clean them till now :?

Probably better in a washing machine than a dishwasher...

Low temperature, no spin! Or alternatively some isopropyl alcohol and cotton buds maybe. Detailing your key has to be a new level of OCD! :D

They are probably designed to be puddle proof and I'm sure washing them is not uncommon so this may well have been considered, however I think putting them in a dishwasher certainly wasn't :D

I've had mine in my pocket while at the gym and then went for a swim... Forgetting they were there.

Key survived (although smelt of chlorine for ages) sadly my ipod nano that was in my other pocket didnt.
