That astonishing SL63 AMG Video!

Interesting that people are questioning the veracity of this video. Looks very genuine to me, that's why I posted it.

Couple of things I've noted about the thread's comments.

There's talk of the C63 which has significantly less power than the SL63. Also the SL is a turbocharged car so the possibility of modifications could yield even more power.

Despite all that, I think we can see that the bike is actually a bit faster in the high speed acceleration stakes and the only time the car really pulls away is when the bike hits the wall/limiter at 299kph.

To me though, the performance of any top sports biker is never a surprise. After all they only weigh the same as a fat bloke. The SL however was thoroughly impressive in my opinion.
 
I drove an E63 a couple of years back and it was laugh-out-loud fast. That was the 6.2 N/A, fantastic engine.
 
At full chat, they sound like God blowing his nose :D

I really have to stop looking at them. Someone I know just got a new one :wub:
 
A friend and I test drove a c63 AMG Black Series about a month back (he was thinking about buying it). It was fast but not bike fast and hindered by a bit of an iffy gearbox. It also wasn't GT3 fast.

As pointed out it's a different car from the one in the video though. DMS will tune the Black Series SL up to 690bhp and 1098nm of torque....... Yes, you read that torque figure correct OVER 1000nm :cry: I think that may well stand a chance against an R1.
 
The SL63 is fast, but not appreciably faster than a C63 (has 80hp more but weighs over 100kg more too), nor is it supercar fast either. It's got decent power 530bhp, 590lb/ft torque so power to weight wise it is in similar category to new M5, E63 and RS6. It's a whale too though (1,770kg no less for a two-seater). It's also £111k and for a mere £9k more you could get a new 991 Turbo which will annihilate it or pay £10k less and get a 991 GT3 which will also annihilate it but not quite by such an embarrassingly wide margin.

If you're talking about a heavily modded SL63 then the comparison between that and the bike becomes meaningless if the R1 is stock. There are plenty of R1 turbos out there....as Youtube illustrates.
 
As an aside, I like the AMG noise but I don't LOVE it. I prefer the higher pitched screamers than the deep rumblers. There are many other engines i prefer. Maserati, Lambo, R8 V10, any Ferrari or Aston to name a few. I think the GT3 takes some beating as well, especially with the Akrapovic fitted.
 
I have to admit to being a bit of a V8 fan boy. V10s and V12s never really do it for me. I never rated the sound of the GT3 that much either. I was in a 981 Cayman S with PSE last week and that actually sounded better. I therefor have high hopes for the 991 GT3. That is if they ever manage to build any.

The deposit intended for the Black went on a sapphire blue GT3 instead. Dealer said delivery by Christmas but just last week they informed him that there is a problem with a component for the PDK-S. Porsche think they can resolve it but are quoting a 10k price rise which won't be applied to existing orders. That means depreciation free motoring if you have one ordered. I hope you got your order in on time OG :wink:

Alas I wish i was in the position to have that dilemma Mowflow! :thumbsup:

My GT3 cherry will be popped with a 997 flavour but I will be very, very excited when that times comes along. Monkey's sounded none too shabby....
