Thnaks to the forum for the advice on removing the foam from the air pipe to the interior. Great mod for no cost and almost no effort. Much deeper sound :)

Yeah I removed the large half of mine but put it back in again as found it too loud over 4k revs

All out in mine... Muchhh better  :driving:

Its getting even louder in this cold weather however; so may place a tiny tiny piece back in...

Removed the lot. Much of my driving is 70-80mph motorway runs and the noise isn't much different at those speeds but great at higher revs.

Can this be done on the 2.0l and is there some destructions around?

Cheers

I understand that its the "sound generator". if so, our cars (2.0 lt) dont have it

i kight be being dumb here but will my car have this? if so where is it, it will all be coming out!

its a 53 2.5

Only the 3.0i/si has the Sound Generator guys :( I am unsure about the ///M (Bloody thing makes enough noise anyway!! ;) )

They can be retrofitted however - a quick search on here could provide part no's and fitting guides - Around £100 DIY iirc!

I just removed what I assume is the large piece (~3" long, I could only find one piece though) and I'll be putting it back in I think, I don't like the note at all. I may have been spoilt with my old V6 noise because removing that foam just doesn't sound right to me, It was far too loud for me too.

only the 3.0s have it, but it can be retro fitted to the other engines.

EDIT: OK, went for another (longer) drive, and decided to cut the 3" section in half and stick one half back in, which I did. The volume has been cut significantly and I'm a lot happier, it is now at a virtually stock level.

I removed mine a couple of days ago... sounds much better. Makes no difference when cruising along but when the engine is put under load accelerating hard is sounds great.

Could only see one bit of foam though? Where's the other bit as I want that out too – used to cars much louder than this one so am probably slightly deaf :D
