Thanks for everything, moving on.

Obviously a mk5 Golf GTI can't be directly compared to a Z4 (hot hatch vs roadster/coupe) but if you measure it on sheer driving fun, then I guess they're not poles apart.

Before I decided on a "stupid" car (as the father-in-law puts it), I looked closely at mk5 GTI's and very nearly bought one at auction. I'm incredibly glad a didn't though - as good a car they are, they're still a far more mundane experience than something like a Z4. I'd just miss a 6-cylinder sound too much, hence why I'd probably end up with a 130i if I needed more practicality (yep, fugly, but they've got that engine!!!)

Everyone wants something different in a car.
I moved on just a few weeks ago. To a diesel, fwd "hatchback"....

Do I regret it?

Yes  :headbang:
Ooooops, sounds like you made a bad choice :slaphead:

Another Z4 on the way :)

Yep, it was kind of a "good time" to sell my Z4, summer price increases and just before the milage got to a point where no one would touch it, but there's no way of not loosing some money when changing cars.
I think I'm prepared to loose a bit more money/value and change cars again to something more enjoyable, even if it's older and less economical.

Z4 or Boxster....

Shutting a Boxsters doors does put the Z4 to shame :| I tried it today and it was the most solid sounding car I've ever seen.

Why is the door closing sound so bad? I noticed it the first time I closed it on the test drive, and every time since! I might have to get amongst the Dynamat as that will help (at the cost of a little weight).

I'm reminded of that "see, sounds just like a Golf" advert, but it doesn't :(

We are looking to add a more practical hatch to the family and luckily we are going to px the girlfriends car so the z4 is safe, just out of curiosity when we were looking round a few garages last weekend I told the sales man we didn’t know which car we were going to swap and asked him to give me a px value on the z.
He had a good look round it and went away for a bit and came back with his first price of 19.5k and that wasn’t even against another car, I was fairly pleased with that as I only paid 17k for the car back in march. I can easily see how people are getting tempted out of their cars but tbh it would take a much bigger offer than that to get me to swap, hopefully this is going to be a keeper for a while yet.

Love em or hate em, you can t get away from the fact that for all the Boxsters, Z s , S2000 s and other roadsters out there, the little MX5 is the best chuckable fun you can have for the money and the range toppers are quite well equipped now although slightly plasticy interiors. the rest of the build quality is excellant. Elises are quick but rattly basic and expensive IMO
