Sold my Z4 last week. Only had her for 6 months but in all that time she was nothing but trouble. Will not go into the finer details but my ownership was not a happy one. Anyway would just like to say to you all thanks for having me and for all your help :thumbsup: Best regards Ray

Would be interested to hear the details but totally understand if you don't want to share.
I had a sinking feeling that I'd took on a bigger lemon than I'd anticipated after purchasing mine due to its' various issues. Though nothing major (to a mechanic at least) and with screwdriver in hand god knows I had a time getting it back into shape. it's well-documented here on the forum but wiith the issues sorted I'm now totally into it and now casually looking for a coupe no less!
I'm banking yours got the better of you for some reason but if you care to elaborate it could be beneficial to thers looking to make their first zed purchase perhaps....?

did you happen to put together a parts list of the steering conversion.

it would be very useful to have that before you depart the forum.
 
Sorry to hear that Ray. Was it an E89 with a stubby? They're what start all the problems. :fuelfire:

I must admit the Z4 is a good looking car. My own Z4 was almost immaculate. I made a long journey to Liverpool to pick it up and the first few months it was alright. Then I got the problem with the steering which was a saga in itself. Eventually after spending hours underneath her in a damp garage I managed to convert it to hydraulic steering and it worked quite well. All parts apart from the intermediate shaft were from a 3.0 E46. I had just finished it off and then thought I would remove the bulb for the power steering. After an hour working on the cluster removal I discovered there is no warning bulb as such but an LCD ! So I stuck it back on again and just put a bit of black tape over the light. Then the thermostat failed and then the rocker cover gasket! All topped off by the passenger window developing the most weird faults I decided that enough was enough after hearing about other members car's expensive electrical problems. So i took off her private plate and I stuck her in ebay and within 3 hours of the add going live a dealer took her away for £3000 cash. Just left with her unsellable private plate. So i started looking for a replacement. First thoughts were an MX5 MK3. They always work and are cheap to run. Saw one in Newbury but an MOT history showed sub frame rust ! Then I thought about a Z3 but only a six cylinder one. A 2.8 for sale near me got me a bit excited.

Went on gumtree and saw a Z3 low mileage garage queen. Two years older than my Z4 but it is electrically a lot more simple. It is a 2.2 and the body is in excellent condition. And there are not many left. I pick it up on saturday and I hope it will be more reliable. I will soon find out but I hope if it goes wrong it shouldl be easy to fix. Regards to you all.
 
Sorry to hear of your Z4 problems OP, but that Z3 looks lovely. :thumbsup:
