Had my Z4 for just under a year now and has 49k on the clock. Full BMW history and when I bought it I also bought a Comprehensive BMW warranty for £366. Well, all I can say is that its the best money ive ever spent after today!!!

Took the car for its oil service (£215) and they picked up 4 items (emissions light was on) :

Needs a new vaccum pump
Replacement O2 sensor as current is faulty (hence the light)
Crack in exhaust manifold - needs new one
Slight oil leak from rocker cover, needs new gasket

He printed out how much it would have cost me without warranty - £1400!!! Add to this the new wiper motor I had fitted two months ago because of the problem of them not returning the wipers back to their parked position (around £400), so far without warranty I would have been down £1800! Ouch.

I thought these cars and BMW's in general were supposed to be reliable! Crikey, I remember the days of my old Toyota Corolla GTI which got to 172,000 miles without any fault or problem before needing the head gasket replaced!

Good for peace of mind, but there are planty owners on here who havent needed any warranty repairs.

Horses for courses I guess....

No doubt you'll have needed discs, pads, timing belts, etc etc as part of routine maintenence?

I've found BMWs are generally very reliable

It's a peace of mind thing. My warranty was just shy of a grand. Come the end of the year I'll either be relieved or kicking myself. As Adamski said, Horses for Courses. I figured if the engine goes pop in an Alpina I'd be bankrupt. (Same with an M I guess). A friends 2.7 S4 engine went pop. £11K later...

Oh of course routine wear and tear, but not wiper motors, vacuum pumps, exhaust manifolds, o2 sensors etc. Then I read on here, starter motors going, door handles falling off etc, does make you wonder!!!!

I brought the extended warranty and over this year I have had:

Complete new fabric roof to replace top heater element of rear screen that wasn't working
New hood motor which stopped working after they replaced fabric hood
New sat nav screen as was intermittently sticking
New wheel caps

Altougth it cost me just shy of a grand I definitely think I've had value for money!!!
