Testing a Fat Gecko camera mount

Testing a new suction cup mount with a Canon Videocam, not a little lightweight dashcam. Boring winter roads but they are bumpy and icy in spots, had to edit out a few f words when I hit a small patch of ice on a corner :D The road was patched on the right side and the road grit was quite thick on some corners. the mount isn;t too bad at all. It was hanging straight down from the glass with an extension on it that amplified any movement. this was in mp4, , I don't like it, I shoot in HD mostly so it looks good on my TV.

most speed limits were 50 Kmh

That looks pretty good mcbee, a mount which doesn't need much trouble to get on / off! Did you lose grip a little on the right hand bend? :P Was looking forward to the recovery but was cut :poke: tehe.

Yeah, I slowed a bit so I didn't scare the oncoming car and then slowed for the turn into the tiny roundabout and immediately hit some fine gravel and snow mix , the back end shifted a foot in a millisecond, needless to say there was a yellow light on the dash and some blue air in the cabin  We have the most snow in a December since 1916 and the Pirelli sottozero's are OK, not amazing , just OK. so the Sport button is getting dusty... :driving: :D

I like the mount, found a more stable position for it and will go with that for a while.

PS: the whole area is under road construction, building a massive overpass interchange for the main roads and this was on a temporary bypass to my house.

the 2 cup suction mount and long extension bar etc do amplify the camera movements.

I looked at fat Gecko mounts a while back for my business.

Using a DSLR and an extension is always a recipe for movement. a 3rd cup brace or much shorter bar would fix all the movement. Can your DSLR operate upside down so that you can hang the camera from the top of the windshield, much like a go pro?

Got the same mount and found it worked very well when using it on meets but not been brave enough to stick to the outside of the car :(

Single suction cup, extension and it was upside down (the camera) so had the most magnification effect on movement. I think it was a good test on the road patches.
