Another MOT test passed today at my local garage, this car’s been very good since purchased 5 years ago, apart from the cracking 326 wheels debacle it’s only cost me routine maintenance (the engine will probably fall out now I’ve said that)

I hope (and suspect) the 335 will be ok when it goes in for MOT early Dec _ Its only done 4k since its last test, had all its services at the main dealer so it better be ok and especially so with only 29k at a little over six years old.

I take it to the dealer as I dont want to risk anyone screwing up the X Drive system on the rollers - They do me a good £'s discount

What year is your 20i Rob?

Saw a busted N20 engine with cam chain failure, 55,000 miles this weekend…

2013 lci model, my previous 30i e89 needed a replacement transmission after 19k miles which proves anything can happen at anytime!
I maintain my car more often than the official schedule & drive it with mechanical sympathy, I’d like to think these important but often overlooked issues go towards a long lived car :P

Great news Rob.

As buzy says it's always a relief when your car gets a clean pass.

Cheers, i changed over to my 17” winter wheels yesterday & it rides like a saloon car on them!
It’s actually quite nice to bounce over all the potholes, the car feels lighter on its feet :)

I fitted my 17" winters to my 3 Series yesterday and it rides like a Z4 - but then they are run-flats!

The E89s seem to get through MOTs relatively easily…few parts to rust and the running gear seems robust..

My new tech had a 1 series with a snapped cam chain today…valves hit pistons with such force that the cam carrier cradle was pushed upwards stripping the retaining bolts.

I see on FB a thread chronicling more N20 failures..wonder if we are going to see more as the fleet goes past 50k?

Of course well / over serviced cars well driven should be a lot better survivors..

Had my MOT done last week, passed with flying colours..however had a service done at the same time and the indy says the cam chain is now on its way out. I assume the same kit that pbondar used is still the best option?

Has your car become noisy? What mileage are you up to? :?
Rob

Hi Rob, mine is on 65,000 now, there's a bit of a whine on blipping it.

I didn't really notice it but the Indy pointed it out, plus the dark brown plastic guides through the oil cap.

About a grand should sort it?

8 out of 9 mot's passed. Failed once on headlight beam setting, they set it, then passed it.
Only car ever owned that passed mot first time.
