Test Your Internet Speed

Finally got my 'free' double-speed upgrade - although the upload speed won't be doubled for a while I'm told - which is not what they 'promised' when I switched early last year, and it was the need for increased upload speed which was the reason I switched (100/10 was not available in my area at the time so I signed up for the 50/5 on the basis that it was allegedly being upgraded 2 months later) :headbang:

I recently got a "Free" speed increase from my IP. I should be getting 20/80 so this is close...

Made me smile more to look back at your 2007 result when you opened this thread.

As an aside I get 90mbs down and 32mbs up on a good day on my iPhone on 4G at home - how the world changes...

Virgin have recently increased ours to 152Mb/s down & 12Mb/s up... I've done tests and, while it's quite possible to max it out, the times when that sort of speed actually makes any real-world difference are few and far between - and that's in a house with managed gigabit switches, CAT5e wiring, RJ45 sockets all over the place and two wireless LANs

In truth, we don't currently need that sort of speed at home and it was difficult to justify when it was 100Mb/s let alone when they upgraded the feed to 120Mb/s, so I'm thinking of dropping back to one of their 50 or 100Mb/s packages
