Any idea what the typical contention ratio is? It used to be up to 20:1 which meant slow going at peak times when all the kids are home from school and streaming youtube

I believe contention ratios are still the same, generally they are domestic 50:1, business 20:1

Which is about 1/2 the download and 1/4 the upload I get at home (until Virgin give me their promised 'doublespeed' upgrade that was supposed to have been done in May).

My work connection (removed the ISP at it's my workplace name!) - not a bad upload...

Remarkable really. Most people were only getting 10Mbps on LAN connections a few years ago. Now most client devices have 100Mbps (yes, I know some are rolling 1Gbps to the desk now) and home broadband is keeping up. I used to pay 10k pa for 256k leased lines to my retail stores!
