Test driving a v8 vantage tomorrow

Itguy, I think you are right, I am in that position where I am undecided, I guess I wanted to come away with an unwavering desire that I should get one!

I have only ever driven a Boxster S when I was last on the hunt for a car but it left me a bit cold. I guess a 911 turbo is on a different level though so I will try one.

Other cars I have been considering:

TVR T350
Caterham
Jag E type coupe mark 2
Z4M
Lotus Exige

I am a big fan of cars that are awesome but "flawed", not sure why, maybe it's the British part of me that loves a trier.

40k would get you a f360....

I've also owned a Lotus S2 Exige S.

Great fun as a proper weekend blaster or trackday toy. Not quite as pure to drive as a bog standard series 1 Elise (or exige) but still really good.

Not really the same kind of car, certainly a bit more of an "owners" car - ie good forum scene and quite a bit of DIY if you want it (class it as a factory assembled kit car).

Previous to that I also owned 2 westfields, one with 135bp and then a second with 175hp. Different again - even more DIY and forum scene, even more specialist but great fun also. Even less practical than the lotus - ie can't lock it/leave it in a carpark etc etc.

The exige S was roughly about the same to 60 as the 911 turbo, then the turbo left it for dust.

If you do look at an exige s just be aware that the standard intercooler is awful (too small) and heatsoaks like crazy with any kind of real use on road or track. This then results in the ecu pulling the engine ignition timing back and you loosing power. I fitted a forge intercooler on mine to fix it (which it did) and others fit chargecoolers to really sort the issue out.

malibudave, interesting review. As a much cheaper alternative (and obviously not a "dream car" like the Aston) you would be impressed with the noise and steering of the Z4M and especially impressed with the noise of an SLK55 AMG.

I genuinely know little about modern Astons beyond my neighbours experience so +1 what Kryton says and please get a warranty!

I just read that thread. First world problems eh? "Boo hoo! I can't get my Aston martin on my drive way". I dare say he also suffers from his diamond shoes being too tight and his wallet being too heavy. Shame. :D

I really, really tried not to leak too much on that thread, but did show? Still situation now normalised, my Z4 is the most overtly sporty car in the road again and the chest-wig is mine :voodoo:
