there are quite a few roadsters around with no options, and I wouldnt touch them.

Heated seats is a must and I would also want PDC, yes I know it can be fitted after market but on a car like the ///M I think it deserves OEM, but SatNav and BT I could live without as they can be easily fitted if required.

Can OEM- BT, PDC be retro fitted by a dealer? and how much would you think.

2dogs, they'd probably be looking for a lot to do it, and also probably wouldn't be that interested in taking it on. As suggested above it's far easier to find one with the options that you want.

Or do it yourself, I have all the kit for the BT just never fitted and saving for the ///M in case that hasn't got it, but PDC means a new bumper I would think to be done properly.

Re no NAV - point to note is that you might not be bothered, but future buyers might be. In other words, the only Ms I have seen for sale that did not sell and had to be handed back to dealers for way below book price, none of them had satnav.

I deliberately bought one without, sure there are more people like that, albeit a minority

so the hunt continues, there just a bit thin on the ground down here

Reference thin on the ground, I wouldn't keep the search area too small - I would be selective about ones I'd go to see, but, from where you are, I'd probably at least as far along the M4 as Reading / Windsor (an hour from the M5 - depending on the number of average speed zones :x ).

Since Sat nav has been out I've never had it in a new car and I've always sold all the cars at a good price ie just at or just under Dealer list I'm always told by the Dealerships I frequent that S/N is a nice to have, not a got to have in a car sale, and will only generate £100 or so extra!

On an X5 it is £3k loss if no satnav.

On a Z - I don't know, but on the top model I just observe that without them they do not sell (at least the ones that don't also don't have satnav).

Sat Nav is very car dependent. Back in the E46 days, on a 320D it's a welcome bonus; on an M3 it's essential. The current M3 has it as standard, which tells you something....most dealers agree on a top of the range model, people expect the options list to be heavily ticked so a 'base' M car is a rare thing. Even though these cars are now 2,3,4 years old, and have lost over half their value, the 'new' customers looking at them seem to expect the same thing as those who bought them new or nearly new. So cars with options sell better than cars without, and the latter needs to be cheaper to make them attractive.

...And of course some specs are simply poison - An E46 M3 in Phoneix Yellow with Laguna Seca interior, 18"s and no Nav is nigh on impossible to sell. I had a 330 Sport with Alcantara interior instead of leather. I got the car for a steal, but come trade up time some dealers offered £5k below book while others refused to even offer me a price on it - 'it will never sell'. Private sellers would lose interest as soon as they found out it was not leather. I got a fair price in the end, but worth bearing in mind.

It will be interesting to see what happens in 10/20/30 years though when these are 'true' classic, cult cars. Will authentic, original Nav be period correct and desirable, or date the car so horribly cars without are more desirable? There is already a massive aftermarket starting to crop up for modern replacements to OEM Nav systems...

Can't see that a 2 grand option can be worth just £100.00. I'd certainly pay more for it - and don't forget you have the computer with the big screen as well.

At the very least it would I'm sure be a massive selling point over a car without it - perhaps more important? :wink:

I regard NAV as a totally overpriced option: Rather buy a Garmin Nuvi for 1/20th the price of the BMW NAV. The Garmin software even provides better info than the BMW software - in my part of the world, certainly. And you can use the Garmin in as many vehicles as you like, including your AVIS rental.

I regard Bluetooth as essential, but that is something one can easily retrofit.

Here in the Southern hemisphere heated seats are the solution to a non-existent problem, although I can understand why they would be essential in Europe or the US.

Mikedav has it spot on. Whether you want or need OEM satnav is irrelevant, when it comes to buying a top of the range model like the Z4M then you will pay a premium for a satnav equipped car. That premium will be substantially more than the £100 that Krytons dealers have mentioned. If you don't want a car with nav thats fine but make sure you buy at a lower price to reflect that.

Its a hugely over priced option but isn't everything; on an £83,000 Aston Vantage, cruise control and Sat Nav are options. I mean WTF?
