Just watched last week's episode of wheeler dealers, when they do up a Jag. Ed China de-carbons the engine using a new-to-uk system called Terraclean. Looked to be pretty effective (reducing emissions and apparently increasing performance), anyone ever come across it before?
 
A modern car, run on modern fuel (with a decent detergent package), and maintained properly should not find this necessary. Also don't forget that BMW does not approve of the use of ANY fuel/oil treatment in their engines/transmissions.

Their UK and .net websites read just like any other 'miracle' fuel treatment, and they probably do no better/worse than anything else on the market.

Don't forget that Edd China 'works' for Terraclean, so is hardly unbiased :thumbsdown:
 
i once watched something on 5h Gear where they tested in a stick environment all the top brand fuel additives! and not ONE made any difference, a few even reduced BHP!
 
i put some redex through a saxo vtr i once had and it made the fuel consumption absolutely wazz and performance dropped too...

not strictly relevant i guess, but i'd never use anything like that again.

That's interesting as I was offered a fuel treatment for £20 as part of my service at a BMW dealer. I thought that's some expensive redex but to hear its not approved is a bit of surprise!
 
Seemed to reduce emissions suggesting it had removed carbon deposits from the Jag engine. I would think it might be something for older high mileage cars.

... with mine being 7 years old and at 80k miles, think I may qualify :D
 
What Edd used was not a fuel additive, it was an engine de-carboniser system. The fuel line is disconnected during the process, and the unit is then connected to the engine intake, it is effectively flushing your engine clean. the difference it made in the emissions was pretty impressive and at an estimated £70 for the treatment it is pretty good value.

I do not work for terraclean, and I am not entirely sure it was a terraclean system Edd was using

Nosa, I checked the sky recording in slow-time (yes, I am that sad) and the kit has the name blanked out. So I did some digging, and the kit looks the same as the TerraClean. Its also mentioned on a couple of other forums, and Edd China now promotes TerraClean, so seems pretty indicative.

Must admit I am tempted and have emailed them about service centres, so if I do go for it, will update the forum.
 
Mark I just want to say loving the new sig! how did you make that one? looks a bit beyond "paint" :lol:
 
:D Cheers Paza, it's GIMP, with animation on the badge - been messing around with it this week whilst wife is watching BGT. Photo was taken by a friend's son who is planning to do photography/art/design at college, so he's borrowing my SLR (weaning him off compacts) and we've been doing a few road trips. Was planning on doing a few shots this weekend for the 1000th post - fingers crossed the weather holds off! :thumbsup:

Very nice it is. Mods will probably ask for it to be removed due to the animation though.
 
Guys, has anybody tried this yet?

My DD (2007, 1.7 CDTI Astra 84k miles) failed its MOT on emissions today, thinking about running a terra clean through the engine.

I've heard a few opinions of people saying that a high mileage car (or at least certain engine compoenents) may have experienced wear and tear to the level that the carbon build up is actually "holding" them together and that removing the carbon may actually uncover new issues/ problems.

Anybody have any expertise/ informed views on this?
