Hey all
I'm going to have my top replaced soon. About a year ago, I installed the additional tension straps so that the top closes gently. It's worked great, but I think (although not sure) that the screws that attach the straps may have caused the rips in the top. It's an old top anyway, so it probably didn't take much to rip it, but going forward, I want the roof to work right and not damage the new material.
So, here's my question:
Should I replace the original tension belts and ropes OR just keep the old ones and continue utilizing the updated tension straps?
The OEM belts/ropes are part numbers:
54347079588 RIGHT TENSION ROPE
54347079587 LEFT TENSION ROPE
54317043910 RIGHT TENSION BELT
54317043909 LEFT TENSION BELT
(These cost less than $100 total, but take about 4 weeks to arrive.)
Just for reference so it's helpful to somebody else, the parts below are the additional "elastic" straps to fix the roof slamming down problem.
Part #: 54347184482 (same part # for L and R)
Thanks!!
