Temp wire for facelift rear lights

I have finally fitted my facelift rear lights and have come to the point of taking a temp feed from the rear number plate lights until I can get the lights coded. Now I assume that the live feed is taken from the brown wire, but can somebody just confirm this for me please

Why take a temp feed? The lights will still work the difference between 12v and 6v you can hardly see the flickering.
