tell us the worst car you ever owned

The weirdest ride I had was a Rover 620ti. If you floored it from standing it would transfer all of its 200 turbo lagged horses from one front wheel to the other and make the front of the car wallow up and down from left to right and back again. When it happened the first time I had to divert to pick up clean underwear.

this thread wasn't meant as a lament to austin/rover but its sure heading that way :D so back to my 820 fastback /
few weeks into ownership the wipers ( whilst under heavy rain on motorway) rounded off the plastic flange they were fastened to & ended up down the side of the car !
shortly followed by the drivers handle coming off in my hand at the petrol station  i nonchalantly walked round to the passenger side & climbed over :( but the worst experience by far with my one & only rover that will follow me to the grave is ?????????

sorry , ,this needs a new thread

Fiat punto... Y reg... By 40k it had a new clutch, new diff, new gearbox and the head gasket was on its way out when I chopped it in! Every year it failed its mot on something or other suspension wise and the exhaust fell off on the m60 without warning one day!

I genuinely hated that car.... It was my first, and cost exactly the same to fix overall as I paid for it... Then got absolutely f#%* all when I traded it in for my Astra... Which was the second worst car I ever owned!

2002 Fiat Punto Sporting from new. Terrible judder problems, build quality issues, dealer has to be the worst. Gave it back at 50% into hpi.

I have owned much worse, but for not living up to expectations I am going to nominate my Hyundai Coupe. A 2.7 V6 sounded like fun, but they pulled it out of the big 4x4 they do, and didn't bother to remap it. From the start it seemed thirsty for the performance on offer, then winter came along and I started getting 50 miles less out of a tank! Bloody thing nearly skinted me, and the suspension was crap too so it didn't handle that well.

Owned it from new and after only 18 months I chopped it in for a Mk2 MG ZS180 (you know the rare one with the side vents), which I bought before MG Rover collapsed so financially that was a bad move, but at least I got back into a proper drivers car and kept it nearly 4 years.

In defence of Austin Rover (well Rover as they were known by then) my first company car was a 220 VVT Coupe. Cracking car that was. Did 80k in two years with no issues. Before that arrived i had a 620 as well for a couple of months which was also very well behaved.

Perhaps that was because they were either brand new (220 Coupe) or nearly new (620).

1982 VW Scirocco. Bought it from a car auction and the engine expired on the way home. Had it rebuilt, but it still ran like a dog. Brakes failed (twice), headlamps went dim when you switched the radio on.... leaked from the sunroof and tailgate...

In the end I swapped it with a more mechanically-minded mate for some stereo equipment. He fixed it up and kept it for 5 years. He sold it and then bought it back a few years later... it was his favourite car! :o

The most hateful car that I have ever had the misfortune to have to use was my ex's Metro... and absolute heap of sh1t. You could move the steering wheel a foot without the wheels turning. The seat collapsed once whilst she was driving at 60mph.

Was it a carby because if it was that would explain why.. I loved my 92 Rocco best car I ever owned.

Yup. 1.6GL on carbs... it couldn't have been any less reliable if it tried. Looked great though. Parked up.

Worst I've owned...53-plate Renault Megane 1.6 un-Dynamique. Rubbish, and sold within 6 months at a huge loss for the most over-rated car I ever owned...a Mazda RX-8 which again rapidly lost 1) my remaining confidence in Jap engineering and 2) value.

Also owned a 1978 S Morris Marina 1.8 Special Coupe from very nearly new. Yes it was junk, but at least it shed (all) its parts steadily over a 6 year period and 150,000 miles

1977 Ford Fairmont Station Wagon. The electrical problems started on day three. Caught fire once. Then received the recall notice for a fire hazard. Ford made it run but never really fixed it. It was a POS right up until I got wiped wiped out in a smash up that was not even my fault.

I'm I the only nut on here to have owned an Alfa??

I loved my 1985 ALFA GTV6, it was the car of my dreams. When I got my first real job in 1995 I went a got a car loan and $15,000 and went out and found my pride and joy.
Where do I begin....the sunroof leaked as did the boot, the heater exploded flooding the passenger footwell with scolding hot water, the head gaskets failed, the front suspension needed a rebuild, had the rubber donuts in axle replaced and on it went until I ran out of money.
It sat in my garage for 18 months until I resurrected it and got it ready to sell only to have it wiped out by a concrete truck while it was sitting outside the mechanics. Yes, a gown man did cry lol

But when that car going, I loved it

All this talk of Austin Rover reminds me of my Rover 200. Company car and I was so proud to have a Rover - for about a week. .
Japanese rebadged Honda but assembled by Rover to their difficult to achieve poor standards.

I recall you could tell if a storm was close or the air was damp as the fabric on the door cards would sag once it warmed up they dried and went taut. Hilarious.

I bought a Rover 216 Convertible from my father-in-law. It wasn't a bad car, except the automatic 'box was stupendously slow which made overtaking very unpredictable...
