Tell me about... Runcorn

I am probably going to be taking a job in the Runcorn area and I'm looking for some advice on the area.

Where is best to stay? within 25 minutes ish commute. I'm not particularly fussed about being in the middle of a town, I think I'd rather be out in the country side with some decent parking for the Z. I've been looking at rentals in the area between Chester and Manchester, can anyone be more specific?

I have family in Hindley but having seen where they live, I don't want to rent in that area....

PS. If anyone has advice on contracting, feel free to contact me.
 
Hi Herminator . What do you need to know ? I am from runcorn so I suppose am the man to speak with. Are you coming with the Mersey crossing project ? Are you lookin to rent , short term / long term ? What kind of social life do you want ? Let me know I'm sure I can help . I am also a landlord of several properties and know of others . :)
 
Lived in Chester for 3 years my ex was from Runcorn, there are nicer areas surrounding like Kingsley or Sutton Weaver but Runcorn itself.. well its not the nicest of places.
 
As tom said ,runcorn is not the best place and the nightlife is only good if you take your gum shield . Frodsham is only five minutes away and alot more affluent . Very good night life , for a village . Very rural , no shortage of sheep and cows to see .
 
I prefer a quiet night life tbh. So rural is probably better. As long as there is a decent set of shops within a short drive. It might be nice to be towards Manchester, for visiting Old Trafford :)

It's a 12 month contract but with some luck I'll be there longer. Not on the Mersey crossing project, no.

I've been looking at flatshares. The set monthly outgoings is attractive but ideally it would be with only one or two other people. Possibly one of them being a current workmate. So really I'm trying to narrow down areas, as you say, Runcorn doesn't have the best reputation.
 
well manc is only 30-40 mins away. I used to go to Liverpool and Manchester a lot as it didn't take long. Chester is a lovely place to live but the rural villages are also very nice! Frodsham is a nice place, one of my best mates lives there its got a few nice shops and is quite affluent as previously said. There are a few nice pubs there in-between chester and runcorn.
 
I have been in Frodsham now for thirteen years . You will love it here . Not too busy , some lovely places to eat out , friendly pubs ( everyone knows everyone lol) 30 mins to trafford centre as next to m56 . 15 mins from Chester ( fab place to shop and go out) Kingsley is nice but no where to go .
 
Thanks guys, Frodsham will be where I aim for then.

More of a headache seems to be understanding Umbrella companies and more scarely IR35 (something I've never heard of before) That or ltd businesses....
