Tell me about my alarm

Parked in multi story today and when we got back to the car the indicator lights were flashing as if the alarm had gone off. No sound though.

The car alongside had a guy who had been struggling to get what looked like a door in to his Golf. When I came up to my car for a look round he drove off pretty quick, in the wrong direction for the 1 way car park. He seemed in a rush.

I looked for any marks that he may have made but there was nothing. I'm guessing he may have touched the car but I wouldn't have thought that would set the alarm off. Maybe it could.

When I got home I set the alarm and then lifted the bonnet. The indicators all flashed and the alarm sounded. Only a fairly quiet beep. Are they really that weak? I would have expected at least a loud horn going off.

Will have to see how things go when I leave it for any length of time with the alarm set.
 
I've not heard the alarm on the Z4 but if it's anything like the E46 it's as weedy as anything. Just a slightly high-pitched beeping noise.
 
That's exactly the noise I got so at least I now know that's normal. Very poor of BMW methinks.

I'll have to keep an eye on the indicators to see if it happens again.
 
I had a issue of my alarm going off in my garage.....its a odd bleeping! :headbang:

After searching the net I found that the bonnet switch could be the culprit, I unplugged it and set the alarm.......... no more false alarms!

I removed the switch and sprayed it with contact cleaner put it back and not had any issues since :thumbsup:
