Teflon coated tyres on ice?

When driving our Z4 on the motorway when it is raining it feels like your driving on ice with teflon coated tyres!

It is so hard to keep the damn thing in a straight line. When changing lanes, if one of the back tyres touch a catseye then the back end steps out.

Is this problem down to the fun flat tyres?

Should I change all 4 for normal tyres?

Sounds a little strange. I've not had run-flats on mine as the M doesnt' come with them, but they do seem to give pretty poor handling feel, though I've not heard anything as drastic as that mentioned by people on here.

Might be worth checking the alignment if its as bad as that, as that could certainly result in some scary handling characteristics if it was wildly out.

I never had it feel as bad as that.
How low is the tread?
Mine were a little slidey once they got below 3mm, but it was the fronts that were lowest for me, the rears still had 4+mm so the rear stayed in check (although I was taking it easy around then since the car was new to me)

both front and back tyres have over 5mm tread on them.

What tyre pressures do you recommend - they are currently set at what the BMW book says, 33 psi front and 36 psi back - I believe.

The nature of the beast. I dumped my RF's for two reasons. The primary one was the ride and tracking issues that have been discussed to death here and on other forums. The other reason is the one that you are concerned with. When they are worn in some, the wet weather grip becomes spooky. Your tires are about 50% of original tread depth right now. Summer is coming (I hope) soon and the roads will be drier. You have some time to ponder your choices, but I would recommend considering donating your RF's to a local race track for use as part of a tire barrier while you negotiate the purchase of your next set of non-RF's before the rains return. I live in an area where it rains often, so this was a must do decision.
