TC off, sport button on, this thing is a monster!!

you must be one gifted driver :wink: at no point i ever driven any of my Zs & felt the need to turn that off :?
Sport button most definitely always on :evil: as well as countless spirited UK miles Ive covered hundreds of Z///Miles at full chatt through the Normandy countryside with 6-7 other M cars often pushing to the edge of safe speed for car & driver so i know what the car is capable of & pretty sure none of the others drive with it off .
How does it enhance the drive for you ?

Sounds like a recipe for changing tyres often...
On the M3 I turn Traction Control off but then don’t turn Sport on.
I find TC to be very sharp, unlike the modern Beemers where it kicks in progressively. At times I feel like TC can actually upset the balance of the car because of its ‘jolt like’ nature. (Plus I squeam for my subframe every time it jolts). The LSD is pretty good also, the car is much easier to control on the limit than the Z4 Si Coupe I find.
As with Sport Mode, when turned on the throttle is overly sensitive. Perhaps on track it would be beneficial but I haven’t really seen it’s benefits in normal city driving or B road driving for that matter.
I wonder how the Z4M’s platform compares with the E46M’s.

The TC is utterly terrible on these cars in my opinion.... doesn’t let you have any slip angle at all , cuts in very sharply and is way to sensitive! With it off you can safely have a bit of low speed slides out of roundabouts and it’s one of the biggest joys of RWD motoring ! I also dislike the sport button... no throttle control . I’m getting the csl TC put on mine and hoping this replicated the M mode on my old e92 m3 , which was fantastic
I know this is on the M specific section and I've got a 3.0Si, but it's interesting to read that a few people don't like the Sport setting because I tried it a few times recently and didn't think it was an improvement.
And I've noticed a few times when getting out of a side road in a hurry the TC cuts in really abruptly, which isn't always helpful! Looks like I need to try it with TC off. :lol:

I find the DSC in the E46 M3 to be very subtle and not at all intrusive. Never had any jerky behaviour from it at all. I wonder if the tyre choice makes it respond differently? It doesn’t allow any slip angle admittedly though and as said M-track coding is the way to go for that.
As the the 3.0Si, the beauty of the stability control on this is thst you can disable traction control whilst leaving dsc enabled (very similar to m-track mode) with just a short press on the button. Again, I find it to be very nicely judged and never gets in the way of having a lot of fun.

Yeah man, my M3 is proper jerky under full throttle if the car breaks traction.
It was worse on my Contis (which I just replaced as they were dud). However I just put PS4S on there yesterday and although it’s harder for TC to kick in, on uneven surfaces it kicks in sharp and makes the Car jerk before allowing it to accelerate.
For that reason I turn it off every time I get into the car.

You have never drove your Z4M with TC off
?Not being a cock but you haven’t really got to know the Z4M........ at all. Now is the Perfect weather to find the minerals to switch it off. Then drive the routes you have previously drove......... with caution.
Leave enough space to let the back slide and keep the power on, don’t panic

No ive honestly never felt any interference from any driver aids whether that be setting off fast or thrashing it through the country lanes which is where i would cover the majority of my miles . I can't comment whether on a track it needs to be off cause ive never driven on one nor have any desire to do so
i'm not being a cock here either but honestly , i'm really not getting this tc off caper at all .
Why would travelling my normal routes & letting the back slide out with power still on make it somehow better ?
I'm not a fanny , i love to crack on when i'm out but on uk roads especially i can't imagine the point or speed where i would think to myself " hahmmm , not really doing it for me anymore
, lacking that certain something , lets try it with tc off & see if that improves my connection with the car " & when guys post " yea tc off in the rain = funtimes" with a 177bhp 2.5 auto that makes me pi55
Each to their own , if it makes you feel like youve got to know a car better with it off fair dos , i think after 13k-14k miles in 3 different ZMs i know them well enough to know that they can flatter & entertain me without turning the tc off :wink:
I’ve never had my tc off either or personally never felt any intrusion on public roads, even with the Normandy Guys where we were very spirited
