Taxi cost

My wife had to go to a meeting this afternoon and she went by Taxi
(14.30 out 17.00 home. )
I was astounded by the cost the total cost for the two trips - £36. It was only 5.4 miles each way and only around the outskirts of this tiny city

That sounds expensive to me - but it’s a while since I’ve used a taxi . Am I living in the past?

Sounds expensive to me Ronk, similar journey here is about £9 each way
Maybe it was parked up waiting for the return journey with the meter running

Update- she has just told me 5.4 total journey ie 2.7 each way. !!!!

The cab arrived and she went directly to it and same after the meeting I’m told

Daylight Robbery! I would get straight on the phone to the taxi firm!

Have all your facts written down in front of you, times, make & model of the taxi, colour and even the 2 postcodes as they can then check the journey distances

Thieving barstewards!

I'd be asking for a refund, or maybe posting something on social media/Nextdoor, etc.

That’s normal. A taxi ride from Guildford Station to home, about 12 miles at 9pm due to a cancelled train cost me £60 last week. Properly licensed and metered taxi, I checked.

In metropolitan areas, Uber is much the cheaper option.

Looking at booking a taxi from Sunderland to Newcastle airport because two weeks parking over the New Year even in the Long Stay is £115 with discounts applied.

Best quote so far for a 22 mile journey, one way is £60 :o

That’s cheap I paid £119 for 6 days at Heathrow purple parking I thought that was quite reasonable.

I did a hotel and 10 days parking inclusive of 2 three course meals (pub grub) for £215 at Gatwick last month, I don't think £115 is bad at al for 14 nights.

At this time of year and with rear wheel drive, a taxi is the most prudent option, just expensive

True but just drive carefully and all should be ok

Any snow and I can’t get off the estate

Wouldn't even attempt to drive the M in the snow, not worth the risk, even 4x4 struggle to get up to where I live

They're always quick enough to to put up their fares when the price of fuel spikes but seems to me they don't then bring them back down as fuel prices return to normal levels. :headbang:

I was just quoted £27.50 (one way) for a taxi on Christmas Day, from home to a hotel for lunch. 17 miles distance, I thought that was very good.

‘Er indoors’ has changed her mind though, she now wants to drive and limit herself to one small glass of Chardonnay. I can’t argue with that :)

Man math dictates that you therefore have an additional 27.50 * 2 to spend on anything you like

Just be careful, you still have to deduct the value of the Chardonnay (small glass of course) and a couple of pounds for the fuel for the car.
