Yep same here 3 cars to tax, or 4 if you include the wife's. DD payments make it a bit easier to process.

I SORN my on the last day of July. Yesteday i got my refund, I thought that was quite a good turn round, i was not expecting anything for 5 or 6 weeks

Just done mine too. £230 per year for the Alpina. Cheap compared to the //M boys, but it still hurts to pay an annual fee for a Sunday Car. :headbang:
Why cant I just pay 1/7th and only use it Sundays ?

Agree Steve, that's why I do it. But it is a rip off, as a DD does not cost anything. As PVR said when it was brought in, they are basically penalising the less well off who cannot afford one big hit. It's shameful

any other payment scheme is cheaper by direct debit :?
It's only more expensive if you pay monthly because you're spreading the cost over 12 months (in the same way that spreading the cost of your car insurance over 12 months is more expensive than a single payment), but the total cost for paying RFL over 12 months should work out less tha if you'd taken 2 x 6 month tax discs under the old system.

So when you want to SORN your car do you just stop the DD? Or do you still have to fill out an online form?

No more so than the old system....

The 5% surcharge for 12 payments is lower than it used to be for the 6-monthly payments so it's actually better for the owner who doesn't pay the annual charge in full as it helps them spread the cost evenly over 12 months rather than have to find a larger payment every 6 months.

HM Revenue & Customs said:
It is envisaged that this measure will help motorists to spread their VED costs, and will support families and businesses in managing their finances.

Motorists who currently buy a six month VED licence will pay a lower surcharge if in future they instead choose to pay by monthly or bi-annual direct debit payment. A typical Ford Focus driver who currently pays VED bi-annually and continues to do so would be £9 better off over the year in the direct debit scheme.

All drivers that currently pay their VED annually can either choose to continue to remain outside the direct debit scheme or pay annually by direct debit, with no change in their VED payment levels.

agree

i also think why should i have to pay fo 3 cars, i can only drive1 at once, it should be on mileage

My renewal notice arrived today. £230 for 12 months or 12 x monthly payments of £20.13 (£241.50), so £11.50 a year more for DD. Usually pay all at once but might try the monthly just for the hell of it and with £11.50 to psychologically feel as though I'm better off even though I'm not.

I use a 0% credit card each year, can normally do it for 2% that way and still get the benefits of patting monthly.

Thats exactly why they should scrap RFL completely and put it on the fuel. That way you pay more, the more you use the roads and also foreigners over here using our roads and Pikeys wouldnt be able to avoid it.
