Ok so how does it work if I didn’t work from September 2012 until February 2013???

I’ve worked out my earnings from 1 April 2012 to 1st April 2013 and I don’t believe I earned enough to get taxed? Yet on the months from April 2012 till September 2012 I was in full time employment paying full tax. Then went traveling for 6 months and started full time employment again from 18th Feb 2013.

Trying to work out if I’m due a tax rebate lol

So you may have to pay tax on £400. (about £80)

Have you worked out how much tax you paid?

How much did you pay in tax is the question on whether you get a refund. Most likely, you will get it.

Refund is automatic when you get another job otherwise you have to get the forms.

If you didn't earn over £8,105 then you should get a rebate.

There are a couple of matters here:
1. If you were on PAYE and earnt over £8.1k, you will still get a rebate as you're taxed monthly on the basis of your full year's earnings - as your annual earnings will be less, you'd have paid too much tax.

2. Take care with new employers as I've known people receiving TWO or more sets of tax allowances & not paying enough tax

To get it right, fill in either a paper of an online tax form... they're a little like sex, challenging the first time you do it but master it after a while

yeah i will have been on PAYE, think i need to give them a call and i will have paid tax my wages at full rate

OK so i've been doing some calculations!

ive traced down all the wages i got! although the figures are after tax i can therefore only make assumption on how much tax i paid on each wage

Company RSA
25/04/2012 £1,116.72 was paid to me via my employer so i'm guessing i paid about £102.38 in tax that month
25/05/2012 £1,117.19 was paid to me via my employer so i'm guessing i paid about £102.49 in tax that month
25/06/2012 £1,036.46 was paid to me via my employer so i'm guessing i paid about £78.73 in tax that month

Company Allianz
31/07/2012 £1,288.01 was paid to me via my employer so i'm guessing i paid about £152.80 in tax that month
31/08/2012 £1,272.61 was paid to me via my employer so i'm guessing i paid about £148.20 in tax that month
28/09/2012 £749.55 this payment was from the same employer as above but i didn't work a full month so unsure how much tax i would have paid on this

i then went traveling and received 3 job seekers payment

04/01/2013 £142.00
18/01/2013 £142.00
07/02/2013 £142.00

New Job Started UKAR
25/03/2013 £1,478.65 was paid to me via my employer so i'm guessing i paid about £208.78 in tax that month

Total Earned was £8485.19 and tax paid was about £793.38

i know im showing all my finance but im not bothered about that lol as long as i get some info.

Don't waste time second guessng what tax you should have paid. Ask HMRC for a short form tax return, fill it in, and let them tell you. My tax affairs are fairly simple these days but I still do a return every year just so I know I have paid the right amount. Every year I either end up with refund or a small amount extra to pay. Better to sort it than let is store up for years in my opinion.

Went travelling and received 3 job seekers payments - love it

Were you available for work at all times :poke: :P

A tax return is a PITA to be honest, so give them a ring first I reckon.

Trying to piece together your last 6 years income and tax records together at the drop of a hat when HMRC ask you, and subsequently paying interest on unpaid tax, could be a more significant PITA :tumbleweed:

so i'm guessing i paid about....

guessing? so you had 3 different jobs in one year and didn't keep any payslips or copy P45's?! What about your P60 year end slip from the March job - that should contain cumulative info for the year on all jobs & confirm exactly how much you earned & how much you were deducted.
