Tax discs

I wonder if the decision to do away with Tax Discs makes it easier to get away with copying a set of plates and using them on a car? (No I don't intend to do it! :D )

When we had tax discs at least they also had to doctor that or make a fake - now all that's needed is a set of plates.
Ok so the vin number is there but who has access to that database.

I think there will be a lot more parking and speeding tickets etc being issued to innocent folk.

I've removed my tax-disk [although it's still valid], why don't others - especially those that ran out in September or November? :?

I was told that you have to leave it on the screen if still valid have not double checked this as not that bothered will remove when it expires at the end of the year
 
It's the cloning of plates against no other simple checking method that bothers me! There is no obvious method of checking as before. Ie they would have had to alter a tax disc as well as obtaining plates.

I've also kept the post office receipt for payment with the dvla payment reques just in case. Payment will go through various agencies. Post office, banks, dvla etc.

You can remove it now, no need to display.

To the others, how often do you think a tax disk was checked? By a parking warden maybe, but I would think the police would check the plates against the VIN anyway.
 
I would say it makes sweet bugger all difference. A colour photocopier and a set of show plates from eBay and your done. I used to put a copy of my tax disc on my westy and keep the original safe from theft/rain

But it would have the cars reg number on the disc and the discs serial number relating back to the car.

To hijack a plate from say the North of England then use it in the South would also require a forged disc for situations such as in a public car park or roadside parking.

Now anpr will just see "Bmw, red, AB 123 XYZ " and show taxed and insured! Previously it would have had a dodgy looking tax disc.

For years I did the same on my bikes, never had a problem. Then I got fed up doing that and kept the tax disc under the seat again no one ever question it.
 
That's where my bike tax disc has lived for approx the last 15 years. The last one is still there I think, must dig it out and flog it on E.Bay :D

so your telling me that as a car drives past you you can read all that? or that a random car on a street will cry out look at me im fake.... or a copper/warden on the beat looks at every car? my inkjet one used to run. and smear.

photo shop or paint can change the tax disc info. plus the guys who do this for a living stealing and cloning will have spare blanks.

No I wasn't suggesting that.
The increased element for fraudulent use of somebody else's plates was put to me by somebody and the suggestion seems to hold water.
 
i disagree, plates can be bought online with no proof of ownership of the car, <1min on autotrader gives me a plate sm54buj of a z same age and colour as mine. 5 mins to buy a plate from this place. http://www.showplatesdirect.com/?gclid=CIPMk5vpp8ICFYKWtAodaH8AJg including an eu badge and the same dealer name as my current car.

5 mins to fill in the tax disc link i posted, a few more in photoshop to sort it out get high res and print on the laser printer

bobs your uncle. i have a set of fake plates and disc for a merlot z4. so i drive down the road normally or park normally how is it different than the proper ones i have on the car now? ANPR will show up a red z4 and so long as the car in question is taxed which you can check online nothing will show as odd.

the tax disc has no effect on this at all. your assumption is that there is some reason to check the car closely. i ran around for weeks without the disc on. the westy rarely has it on as the copied one runs/fades.
