TAX Disc question

So I have taken my tax disc out of my car as I dont think I need to display it anymore - my wife however says it should still be on display as its only people who buy car tax from 1st October that dont have to display a tax disc.

Who is right?

I was thinking they should now be able to issue a 12 month licence from point of purchase, ie not to the end of the previous month 1 year ahead, so you get less than 12 months.

Also when you sell a car you should get a refund from the day of sale. Otherwise when you sell/buy a car for that month you will pay twice.

Every other service manages to do run 12 months from purchase so why should this be any different. No VED discs to produce anymore and a computer system can handle it easily.

They will have to change it at some point all together my DD only costs £30 a year. More and more cars are going this way so can only be a matter of time before it goes on fuel.

...and not before time too. My dd is zero tax but does 10 times the miles my Z does. Along the way the dd spews out god knows what but apparently diesel is less polluting - yeah right!

Diesel is produces less CO2 but produces more nitrogen oxide and from next year diesel cars will need to meet a new EU introduced legislation on these emissions. Supposedly this may effect values and from 2020 you'll be charged £10 more to drive a diesel car into the congestion zone.

Given the little me and my other half drive our cars it would be beneficial for us to pay it via fuel, but I'm never quite sure how they can say you pay x amount due to emmissions but you might only drive 1000 miles but your next door neighbour could do over 60k a year paying half the road tax but more than likely producing more CO2 than you do.

And also just to clarify, these new rules apply to ALL vehicles, including those with tax still remaining on them after the changes? i.e The tax cannot be sold on with those vehicles either?
