Tax Disc Holder "Cable"

As tax discs are no longer needed I decided to try and remove the disc holder on my 2007 Z4. I've discovered that there is a thin black cable (appearing from the end of the dashboard by the side of the window ) which is attached to the holder. Does anyone know what is the purpose of this cable? I thought I'd better find out before cutting it and possibly blowing the car up!

Never heard of such a cable.

Does it go into the disk holder or merely trapped by it?

Unless it's a fancy swanky illuminated holder or similar I'd guess someone has anchored and aerial or similar to it.

Be an aerial for a car kit. Was quite common. If the kit has gone the aerial isn't needed.

Just make sure you clip the red first, then the blue then the yellow......oh wait is it red, yellow, blue!? :?

Yes, looks like a "Tax Disc Holder Mobile Handsfree CarKit Antenna Aerial"....as the kit is no longer with the car I'll ask the wife to follow the procedure outlined by lux.Thanks for all your help and advice.
