Tax costing

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to work out running costs on a 2006 3.0 litre roadster that I'm viewing on Sunday.

The tax on the car is due end of July, any ideas how much this is for 6 and 12 months?

Also, how many miles per gallon am I realistically likely to get out of it? I appreciate this is dependant on how heavy my right foot is! And how much is a full tank of fuel? I'm guessing I'll get around 300 miles out of a tank?

Regards,

Steve.

I've just taxed mine at £285 for 12 months.

On a stead long a road route I'll get 35-36 mpg. Around town and/or with a heavy foot 23-24mpg. I previously owned a 1.8 turbo previously which was a lot lighter but the fuel costs aren't massively different. Very economical car for a 3l.

The tank holds around £70 in fuel but I only tend to half fill mine as I like to put fresh fuel in as regular as possible and I get shell points/bonus

Cheers guys. It's actually cheaper to tax than I thought. I had visions of £350+!

Is 300 miles to a tank realistic?

Regards,

I used to get 320 miles out a tank in my 3.0. That's a 50:50 mix of motorway and town driving. I think it's probably the most economical "large" engine of its time. Better than Audi's 3.2 V6 efforts for sure
Hope this helps :driving:

I think 6 months was about 150. I get about 32 ish at the mo running shell fuel save normal petrol doing a journey that is 16 miles each way and is a combo of inner city 40mph many tragic light dual carriage going into 70 mph bit a 10/15min stap start crawl over the Runcorn bridge and some 60.

I'm not particularly light footed and don't go all that slow. I have had it up to 40 ish mpg when cruising on mostly motorway

I've clearly got the wrong car. I get around 250 miles on a tank and it rarely does more than 25 mpg and that's with me being cautious! :(

Cheers guys, this has been really helpful. :D trying to work out how much the running cost are going to be has always been a worry!

I'm having an AA inspection carried out on the car as well just for peace of mind. Anyone have any experience of these?

Steve.

That is way too low. IAt worst on my old 2.5si I got 27-28. Being good 32+ (That's A & B roads for both)

Will depend on the driving style, and driving conditions.

On my regular commute between Liverpool & London in the Z4MC I can get 24-32mpg depending on traffic. Driving around city centres sees me down to below 20mpg.

If it's busy and stop-start I get 24mpg. If it's empty and I'm tempted to stay at a 'high cruising speed' the I get 28mpg. If it's free flowing but limited to 50-70mph then I get 31-32mpg.

I fill up at each end of my commute (about 210 miles) and then put 7-9 gallons in.

Car tax/VED really is very silly in this country.

My daily commute may be changing soon to involve many more miles and so I have started to look at suitable cars. I sort of fancy a Lexus IS250 for a change and have been looking at second-hand models.

I would normally go for a Manual gearbox every time, but there is an anomaly (to my mind, at least) whereby the IS250 Automatic has a slightly lower CO2 emission than the Manual, which means that the (post-2006) Manual car is taxed at £485 a year, whereas the Automatic version of the exact same car is only £285. So effectively an extra £4 a week tax for having a Manual gearbox!

(Even more anomalously, the VED on my 2001 M5 - 5 litre, 400bhp - is only £285 a year, whereas the March 2006 Z4M - 3.2 litre, 343bhp - is £500 per year. And a Porsche 996 Turbo S - on my shopping list as a potential weekend car - is also only £285 a year).

At 65 on the motorway I get 40-42 MPG. 36-38 MPG at 70 and about 32 MPG at 80.
Round town about 25 MPG, the worst I've had is 20 MPG which is about 30p/mile. On a journey 15p/mile.
