"Tappety" sounding engine..?!

I read a few comments here that the M engine sounds a little "tappety" by nature at lower revs, but this sound on mine makes me think something is asray (maybe low oil?) or is this normal??

Does it happen around 3000 revs? Mine does and it's normal apparently.

They sound very tappety when you take your foot off the throttle and the engine is not under load. It's the way they are apparently.

The noise at 3000rpm is the VANOS, and is perfectly normal...

I noticed this morning I've got this sound between 1000 and 3000 revs, but you guys have mentioned this happens on yours between 3000-3500 revs..just spoke to service and understand this can be low oil too.. they recommend Castrol TWS 10/60W oil... is this the best option?

my 3.0 has been a little tappy once or twice over the cold winter from a cold start only.
One thing to try is to always depress the clutch when turning the engine off and also when starting.

I do that, too. It's only happened once, and went away after about half a mile or so. It was starting from cold.
