Tanker drivers

Decanting petrol indoors, I think not, I'm sick and tired of watching people with mobile phones on forcourts, doing stupid things like that and the woman, much that I feel sad it happened...People need educating.. I work in the Oil and Gas industry and its very hazardous, tanker drivers are driving a bomb behind them and you only ever get one side to the story. All speculation about what they want and what they are being asked to do...... :headbang:

Causing panic is the issue though - If someone shouts in a plane "we are all going to die" and causes a panic where someone is injured, he is guilty of that. If there is a stampede in a club where people get killed because someone caused a panic, that person is guilty of manslaughter.

There are a lot of cases where people are guilty of causing events, and I think this one is caused unnecessary.

Obviously what the woman did is the weirdest thing ever and is her own fault of course, but created by a scenario as described above.

I'm sorry, whilst I feel for her and hope she recovers, this is totally her own fault - what a bloody stupid thing to do. From the outset the statements on the news by the government have been counter-balanced EVERY time by statements from the AA, the fire service etc. about the dangers of storing petrol on your property. Sure, she may not have had her fuel on the property without this pretend crisis, but the comparison with a club stampede or an airplane panic are not valid - in those situations you have virtually no control over what is happening around you and everything happens in the moment. She was not being chased into her house for her petrol, or in the middle of a panic, she was in her kitchen with the oven on decanting petrol for goodness sake.

Now, if a fight at a petrol station erupted and somehow petrol was spilt and ignited harming those at the petrol station then I accept the logic above. But IMHO there's no accounting for simple, good old fashioned idiocy.
 
It's not just Tanker drivers, SWMBO works for a haulage firm and the attitude of the majority of drivers is sh1te to say the least in so far that they think they are something special.
Have you seen the HGV the police are now using to catch drivers making cups of tea, watching / using laptops while they drive.

Still I although I don't agree with the strike never actually thought about the fact they pulling a bomb behind them before, certainly more of a risk than boxes of cornflakes.
 
Bing while I agree that it was the women's fault - especially sloshing petrol around with the hob on! - there is a issue that the press are not held to account enough. The hacking thing is demonstrating that, although once the headlines die down it'll be business as usual again for the hacks. The people who are happy to incite the panic buying because it makes a good headline wouldn't feel a shred of remorse if there was an accident that was attributable to their panic-stirring. Instead they'd be delighted that there's another juicy story to headline with. Two for the price of one.
 
What a silly lady - absolutely she has to take responsibility for her own thoughtless actions, and just be thankful that it wasn't more serious. What was she thinking?!?!?!? :headbang:

B*ll*x sorry I have seen the proof check out youtube and it is validated by the HSE, I wotrk in the industry and seen a tanker explode as part of safety training and the guy didn't get out alive
 
Yes that lady has to accept she was the one decanting petrol in a kitchen with the hob on. Not the government.

The government has got it wrong with some messages. Like make sure your at least 3/4 full, fill jerrycans etc...

There may not be a strike, if there is one 7 days notice must be given, there wont be one before easter...

The only people we have to blame for queues at the petrol stations are the idiots who cant work out that its business as normal until we get a strike notice, and then we get seven days warning AT LEAST.

Blood boils at all the morons panic buying becuase they saw someone panic buying. Sheep the lot of them.

I would brand them all with a great big S on there forehead just so I know who they were.

I suppose I wouldnt really brand them, but that lack of foresightedness by them is frustrating.

The tanker drivers will be sitting back and laughing their heads off at all of this. There's no need for them to strike, the government and the general public have caused the disruption for them.
Both sides will meet next week, and according to the media a deal is highly likely.
Two weeks is now the earliest a strike can take place, which probably wont happen anyway.
 
I tried to get petrol today because I NEED IT, fuel light on, but either garages sold out or a 2 hour wait with the chance it would be sold out before I got there, Feckin MORONS, one local woman sat in a Q for petrol here for an hour and a half to top her tank up, it cost her less than £5 to fill up, and most of that was probably used just sitting in the Q in her glorified school bus. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
I have had to cancel plans this weekend because of the fuel shortage in our area caused by MORONS not tanker drivers.

I am all for branding these idiots :thumbsup:
 
Its really strange at the pumps , used most my fuel today as going to Reading today . So needed to top up for the drive home, so went to Morrison and it was jammed so carried on down road to the shell garage it was emplty and was in and out no problems :thumbsup:

Rach - I heard the woman has 40% burns... One of our medically trained colleagues can confirm or otherwise, but I am pretty sure that's a life-threatening percentage :o
 
Wouldn't surprise me if there are more instances over the weekend.... encouraging people to keep petrol at home in jerry cans... combine that with a bit of good weather and everyone having BBQ's and you'll have people pouring petrol onto the BBQ as a way of starting it... instant face burned off!

Some people don't realise just how potent petrol is... I mean technically you could run a car on the stuff!
 
Not much chance of a BBQ this weekend with the temperature halving tomorrow ...

Scary though though that we are living close to people with such low mental faculties :o
 
now they can work an 11 hour day to keep supplies flowing. Surely this is a health and safety issue,tired tanker drivers on our roads.How hypocritical if the tanker drivers do work these extra hours.
 
Been working in Milan all week and just got back. Read about all this so with the Zed on vapours from the airport I was worried.

Drove to the local Shell station and they were deserted as they only had V Power (and lorry pump diesel)

Perfect :)
