Talk to me about E30 verts....

...I've got a real hankering for an E30 325i manual convertible with mtech bodykit - lusted after them since the early 90s, and seem to recall a rather spanky white one in a Baby D video I think?

Was getting the wife's Qashqai washed today and saw a lovely blue non mtech vert in the car park, roof down - and was surprised at how roomy it was.

I love my Z4, but do miss the simple to fix and real driving feel of my MX5s, and hope the E30 could scratch that itch. This won't be a main car, just a fun project to play with and mod

I have discovered E30zone, and have begun to read up on them, but wondered if anyone has real experience or advice?

Rust is the biggest issue with these. Like you I would like a 325i MTech, but in 2 door saloon/coupe.
 
Loved my E30 and would love another but its getting hard to find a good one now days,and 325 fetch good money :grin:

Would love one too ! Had a look for a non-convertible 325i about 3years ago & everyone I looked at was rotten or had been thrashed. Seen a couple of nice ones but crazy money. Think you would need deep pockets to keep one in good condition. Good luck with your search. E30 zone should keep you right :thumbsup:
 
the best model was the very last. J or K reg. - had the face lift rear. Rust on the back end of the cills is a worry though. I had a late 320 (dolphin grey). - loved it.
 
Well, at least if you have owned MX5s then you will be no stranger to tin worm and may already be handy with a MIG welder or have struck up a friendship with a welder. If not then I would sy do so before buying an e30.

Having just bought a car of this era I can say that unless you spend a packet, be prepared for getting your hands dirty. Like many cars of the time they are relatively easy to fix yourself but getting some parts can be a problem. I did look at e30 325i convertibles but they are getting rare and even dogs fetch reasonable money all thing considered.

Two of the three MX5s I had were either rust free or had been repaired, but am quite aware of the fun it can cause! The coupes do look rather lovely too. And it appears shoving an E36 328 engine inside isn't a major task - not for me, but for BW Chiptune!

What did you buy Mowflow?
