Talk to me about a decent road suspension setup for E86 3.0si.

I’ve got sport springs and B6 dampers. It is firm but tightly controlled. Suspension travel is maintained which helpful in rough B roads but the B6 dampers work best when up to speed - feel the imperfections at low speed. I’ve also gone up a tyre profile size which helps and also fills the arch gap a little. This is what it looks like - front is fine ride height wise but I’d like it to look at bit lower at the rear ideally

Great input from everyone thanks. I’m thinking first that I will check the age of the current fitted shocks. If they prove to be original then I might consider oe parts.
I will add that my 330d had covered over 170,000 miles when I replaced the rear shocks. When removed they were dated 2006 (year it was made). Also when one of the fronts went at about 155,000 miles I could tell instantly that something was wrong and indeed when changed it had no return on the damping action.

Another on B4 and Eibach and non run flats, it’s way better than before (69k coupe on stock Msport with run flats) and it looks better too. Not a huge spend if you shop around and do the work yourself, it is doable on your drive.

My car is on 105,000 miles and passed the MOT with flying colour but I wanted to refresh the suspension anyhow. All the dampers were totally shot, zero damping left at all. The rear ones had been replaced before, not sure about the fronts but based on that I’d say they have a life of about 50,000 miles.

Wow you did well with those! My 2005 330i SE was clanking at the rear every time I hit a bump on 115K miles - one of the shocks had no fluid in it!

B12 Pro Kit on the e85.

It's noticeably better from the original suspension and lower too.

How they will be on the hatchback with the extra weight of the roof I have no idea.

Might be worth seeing if there's anyone close that has changed the suspension to see how their feels to you.

Different springs :)

Did actually mean the B12 Pro Kit for the hatchback not the e85 kit on the hatchback. The OP would hopefully realise the difference if ordering.

Have you tried talking to a specialist like Birds or similar?
They always seem to get good reviews. The thing to bear in mind is spring and damper rates will make a big difference, so don’t get too hung up on the make and start discussing spring and damper rates with a specialist would be my advise

Yeah hope so, but it's only the rear springs that are different so the wrong ones can be fitted with duff gen (not that yours was) :)
