Taking the Channel Tunnel this weekend...

Hi,

We're taking the Channel Tunnel this weekend and I was wondering what the process is for getting on the tunnel?

I'm figuring just get to M20 junction 11a and follow the signs, how much time should I allow for getting on once reaching it? 45mins be enough?

Yeah, just follow the signs from the M20 - very easy you can't go wrong (unless I guess your name is Mr Bean!). Check-in is 'Toll Booth' style most of which are unmanned automatic. If you arrive early they allow you to get an earlier train.
 
Try to get there a bit earlier on the return at Calais. :)

That means you can get into the supermarket outlet, which is after the check in booths, and stock up on wine.
When we came back at end of July - they had a 2 for 1 offer on the boxes of wine.
I managed to get 6 boxes (18 litres) stacked up behind the seats. :thumbsup:
 
They now have automatic numberplate recognition in place at the toll booth. Check in is very simple, you need the Credit Card with which you made the booking though.
 
From the junction, allow a minute to reach the tolls.

Once you arrive at the 'touch' screen, allow about 5 minutes of ineffectual pawing, then prodding, then punching to get the poxy screen to respond. You will look like a cat pawing at the screen of a television showing pictures of mice.

If your train departure is already open and you're lucky, you can drive straight past the dozing French customs guy and security.

If you're unlucky you could get a passport check and your car swabbed by a bored security guy - 5mins

From there, straight to a queue waiting for the train.

Best way - 10 mins from the junction to the train, worst case scenario 20mins. Aren't you supposed to arrive 30mins before?
 
I'm aimiing to get there 45 minutes before, really don't want the 1st leg of our holiday to be mangled, just need to get my partner in the car early doors.

Normally we'd stay nearby the night before but a ballet has put the boot on that one :(
