Tag Heuer - Update

Hmmm not sure about the rubber strap Tim.

Its the Ltd Edition version, the rubber strap is supposed to mimic tyre tread of 60s F1 cars, I think you either like it or you don't, I don't mind it but the strap is easily swapped for a Tag leather strap so will do that if I don't like it. I'm not so keen on metal bracelet straps so it would have to be leather or rubber ooerrr. I have a rubber strap on my Moto GP Tissot and its bit more practicable than a leather and doesn't discolour.

The Monaco I sold was bought by a dealer, which I knew about but was in two minds to sell as they only buy to make a profit, anyways he didn't waste any time relisting it, if it sells he bags a nice 800 quid profit
That particular dealer is a total slimeball.

He was recently outed on the TZ-UK forum (a UK watch collectors' forum). He was posing as a private collector to buy watches there (as sometimes watches are sold at below market price between forum members), and he would then resell them for profit either on eBay or on his own web site. He was also telling various sob stories as his excuse for making lowball offers for watches.

When he was challenged on the forum, he initially denied everything and it was only when he was faced with lots of proof that he finally admitted to being a trader. It then transpired that this was the second time that he had done this, having re-joined the TZ-UK forum under a different name. Needless to say he is no longer a member of the TZ-UK forum (unless he has rejoined under yet another name!)

Ahh OK, thanks for the info, I knew he was a dealer before he placed a bid as he was asking questions about the Tag so I just clicked on his username and saw he was selling other watches. He seemed pleasant enough and paid up quickly. although he didn't waste any time wanting to know when I would post the watch out, fair doos as its alot of money to pay.

I do wish now I had put in the e-bay ad no dealers etc although obviously thats difficult to enforce if posing as a private buyer. I'm happy though that I didn't make a loss over the original purchase price but feel hes making money out of me as the watch was virtually umworn and mint, a bit like a car dealer

If he paid what you wanted then its not fair slandering him.

You were happy with his offer - its now his chicken to get more for it.

Its like cars - one knows that if you stick out eventually one will sell - that evertualitly might mean a long time - a luxury some people don't have.

Ultimately its his risk now.

Of course, I'm not slandering the guy, hes a dealer so out to make a profit and a business, kinda my fault for not setting the reserve higher, however its always the old addage between setting a price to sell but getting the most you can for something. If I was running a business I would do the same, offer the least money to maximise a profit.

I have had a few tag's Targa floria and Carrera, my only issue with both was that the sapphire crystal domed watch faces are really easy to scratch :headbang: now have my second breitling and the quality if them IMHO is better. Both nice brands though.

well breitling vs tag not that comparable, so quality would be better on breitling.

but love the Monaco none the less, even with eta movement,

Sorry to go OT but my son (17) likes watches and dreams of having an Audermars Piguet (sp) watch. Obviously I'm not going to buy him one, but it's his 17th birthday coming up soon and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good "starter" watch. Budget would be about £200 if he puts 100 of his own money in. I wouldn't mind second hand if it gets a better quality watch.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance

Perhaps a Tissot?

They seemed to be highly recommended when I was looking, not entirely sure on their entry price point but a nice watch nonetheless.

Don't forget if buying from the high street to ask for discount ;)

+1 on Tissots I've had my 2012 Moto GP Watch for a year now and love it, very well made, weighty but not overly so and feels premium,

Loads on Watch Hut,

Well after flogging the Monaco I was on a mission to find a Carrera Monaco Grand Prix Edition. Cheapest I could find one in the UK new is at Swiss Watches Direct but was determined to find one cheaper. Anyways I noticed one on e-bay at less than 3K new at a Jewellers in Lancashire so gave them a bell and the deal was done with a bit of haggling :) It was a bit of a faff paying for it as it wasn't a simple case with the credit card over the phone :? First I had to send over proof of ID and then they had to arrange a secure payment link, what a faff. I only realised afterwards when I googled the company their 2 shops in Blackburn has been subject to 2 armed robberies so I can guess why theyre extra cautious. Anyways looking forward to adding it to the collection,

A fine timepiece :) Peter Jackson ?
Bought both my Tag & Breitling from there , , reputable , honest shop

Thanks Mr Wilks, no I bought from Humberstones Jewellers, looks like they deal in all sorts of prestige watches, they were good to business with so hopefully the Tag will be ok. It comes with full Tag Warranty and papers whereas Swiss Watches Direct it tends to be their own warranty.
