Sytner Service follow-up & BMW Insured Warranty

On 20 November, I posted "50k-mile service by Sytner's on 35iS"*.

The service identified a "very slight leak" from the n/s/f adaptive shock absorber, a "slight leak" from the rocker cover gasket and a "leak" from the DCT gearbox sump plate.

Today, Sytner's replaced the adaptive shock absorber, the rocker cover gasket, and the DCT sump plate, gasket & gearbox oil under my BMW Insured Warranty.

The Warranty cost £412.87 in December 2017. The excess today was £250 and the Mini Clubman Cooper S courtesy car insurance was £12.50.

The Warranty renewal in December 2018 is £339.

(The Warranty includes a limited version of BMW's 'Roadside Assist'.)

:? What is the point of the post?
Surely the point is that keeping the warranty going has saved a bill of over £2000, minus excess and the cost of the warranty in the first place

What was the total cost of the above repairs to the insurer? If you know of course
The key question, of course.

At Sytner's prices, over two grand. :)

How do you get to two grand for that Buster? :?

AFAIK shocks £800 each, rocker gasket...what...£50?

So you reckon at least £1200 for fitting a shock and rocker gasket, 2 hrs at best, then taking the sump plate off, smearing some instant gasket seal on and refitting for the rest..?

I’m not saying you’re wrong I’m just staggered as to how you get to over 2k, even at the daylight robbers.

If paying for warranty and ‘servicing’....and I say that in the loosest possible terms...at the stealers is your thing that’s fine, but you’re also left with 3 old shocks and 1 new one. I couldn’t live with that personally, you change shocks two at a time or all four if there’s a knackered one on each axle.

I couldn’t buy a zed with adaptive suspension at those prices, I just couldn’t
Rob

They work well though Rob but you’re right, they’re hellish money. If you’re happy with standard it makes so much more sense to be without them as you say.....it’s just I know Busterboo has no sense..... .neither have I...

+1

Unfortunately issues with the fuel pump, adaptive suspension, coil and injectors put me off purchasing one.

There was no mention of that in the first post, hence the question.

I understand. That said, the 35iS is a very good car and an extended warranty makes it affordable. :driving:

Like sprouts AUC warranty  some have no problem digesting , others feel bilious at the thought
Glad it works for you Buster

and following on.. how much if that work done ourselves excluding swearing and skinned knuckles is a given .

Call it £900 in parts and a days labour doing yourself.....that’s with a few brews and a ham sarnie thrown in.

Bloody robbing stealers.....2k my arse.... :x

you have to wonder at the world and mindset the suited and booted main dealer staff live in, to be able to stand with a straight face and arrive at these numbers without once thinking these prices are outragous ... :o

i look at the rise of korean cars in the world and you have to wonder if they ever wonder they might be pricing themselves out of the market one day - not today, but in ten years ? and no i dont want one, but i bet in 10 years time what you can buy for 20k will make bmw's head spin..

That is true. However, that assumes you have the tools, knowledge and most of all, the time to do such work. I most certainly haven't mate to spend hours in the garage. A bit of tinkering sure.

That’s for sure Step change, it’s not for everybody but it just proves my point how much the stealers are robbing customers that even someone at home with the tools and desire to tackle it would only take a day at most, so the stealers what, the morning at most with the tools, ramps, and experience. There’s making a profit and then there’s absolutely taking the p***, especially when they don’t even do the whole job on say, a service, as they didn’t on my 35is which I had to have done there for new car warranty purposes. Charging me for parts they hadn’t even fitted. :x

The worst thing about dealers has to be the fact that they charge you to diagnose whats wrong with your car.
Most other professions this is called a quote and is normally free.
