Switching to Non-Runflats

After finally making the decision to change to non-runflats and finding the right tures (Michelin Ps2's) at the right price (!) I went to see a few local tyre fitters to see if they would fit them and ...... no!

Apparently they are:

1) Dangerous
2) It can't be done
3) It will damage my car as it is set up for run-flats

I am now really confused - I have the M-sport suspension and 18" split rims - has anyone had negative experiences with the change and any idea who would fit them in the Leicester area?

Help greatly appreciated! :? :x

What a load of crap they have told you...
I am sure someone on your side of the pond will be along soon to suggest tyre fitter that can help...

I had the same problem... I ended up going to ATS, although I am sure id depends on the particular fitter you speak to as to whether they will do it or not.

It's shocking how ignorant (or even arrogant in my experience) some of these tyre fitters can be!

Concur with the above, what a load of ballcocks, i went to Non RFT's 10000 miles and two track days ago and my car is awesome :D , What i am going to tell yopu though might save you a few hundred quid.
The tyres you need to switch to are Falken FK452's.. :o , on previous BMW's i have used Pilot sports, potenza's, conti's, Dunlops and pirelli's, these tyres knock spots off the lot of them and i would never ever again pay the over inflated prices for what you might term 'branded' stuff, many people on http://www.bmwland.co.uk have also made this switch and come to the same conclusion i did, this includeds one of the moderators who runs an E46 M3 and regularly runs to the Nurburgring, I paid £320 for a full set, same wheels and sizes as what your running, just look through the brand snobbery, save yourself a few hundred quid and make you Z come alive..

It's not the fitting of the new tyres that's the problem.

The problem is removing the Runflats from the alloys.

Due to the sidewall being so hard they need special tool to do it (so I was told when I changed mine).

Try,

Kwikfit
141 Charles Street
City Centre
Leicester LE1

They should have the tools to do it.

Then let us know when you stop smiling driving your "NEW" car!

Some tyre fitters are such morons. How can they talk such bull when its obvious the Z4M variant has non run flats from the factory!

I just bought mine and its on Contis but I also highly rate the Falkens - quality tyre for a bargain price and easily better than the Conti M3s etc. PS2s are obviously the business but they are also bloody expensive...you can have nearly 3 sets of the Falkens for the same money and they are great tyres (had them on a 330 Sport and they wiped the floor with the OE Bridgestones). I also really like Goodyear GSD3 F1s - dry grip is stunning, but they are very soft and don't last long

Ok - I didn't realised that the Z4M had non-rf's!

I am definitely getting PS2's as am a big fan of Michelin tyres and have got them at a bargainous price - I just can't find anyone to fit them!

Many tyre fitters come up with various reasons not to do the job if they don't supply the tyres. They dislike the idea of people getting internet prices then using the local company to fit. Sometimes the national chains claim health and safetly, product liability and other nonsense driven by their corporate policies

I've been through so many hoops as running Jeeps I frequently knock tyres off rims, have to get mudded up ones reseated as beads leak and I also import tyres from the US to fit.

I have 2 in my area that would do it for you without question and have already offered to do my runflat conversion when needed, but am probably too far off (South of Lichfield) so my suggestion is to go to a smaller independant who will no doubt help.

Have you tried blackcircles.com ? Order online cheaply, then pick a local fitter...

Surely the post is about getting them fitted not where to buy??

blackcircles allows you to select the tyres and thens elect your local fitting agent, where you go to get them. So no issues with the dealer refusing to do it.

Newbie here... I got a dumb question...
For those who have swithed out the run flats, what is your contingency should you have a flat in the middle of nowhere?
I know there's no room for a space... so do you have a can of tire sealant? Just curious...
