Switch E86 Coupe from 18" to 17" for winter

Hi,

Are we OK to switch our Z4 Coupe M-Sport down to 17s for winter? I'm assuming it is, and that any E85/E86 wheel would be fine?

This will also let us get the 18"108-style wheels refurbed over winter.

Thanks for any tips.

Yes 17s are fine on your car , the E89 17s will fit a treat due to having more aggressive offsets , a perfect set here with winter tyres already fitted  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bmw-Z4-E89-17-Alloy-Star-Spoke-290-Silver-Winter-Wheels-pA3/293286681063?hash=item44493f99e7:g:WNoAAOSw1UFdB4NB

17" wheels were 'standard' fitment on the 3.0si models, though they all seem to have come with 18", so no problem to do this - unless larger brake calipers have been fitted...
Also, no need to have wider wheels at rear for the staggered set-up; a square set-up on 17" rims will do fine and be quite a bit cheaper if you need new rubber too.

Pretty sure 16" will not fit.

No, 16s won't fit any facelift 3 litre as the front brakes are too big.

Probably most of them are on 18s because most are Sport models which had MV2s as standard and 108s as an option.

E46 3 Series wheels would also fit so long as they are at least 17s - that might give you a bit more choice.

Best photo I have, atm.
Still spring-ish weather here so no winter set on, yet :D

Thanks for that - got excited there, but the tyres are from 2011, so probably a bit old I would think...?

Mine with 17s

Those look good - do you know the style code for those wheels please?

I wondered that too, then noticed in Adam's signature that he says they're style 339.
Think they are from an E90?

Yes, 339s are E90 wheels.

They are square 17s - 8J with ET34. (Much better looking than the 158s my E90 came with). :(
