CJ, great results. where did you get your pads from?
there are millions on ebay, i also dont know what thread the porter cable has to get a velcro attachment to make things quicker.

hopefully i can get some work done this weekend :D

Rudd - I actually got them from the US in one big order - pc, velcro backing, 4" and 6" pads crate full of Meguirs kit. The pads are Sonus and in a quick search I saw ebay awash with them, but I don't claim them to be the best.

Let me have a look at the thread size in the morning

I have a DAS6 and think it's great. I spent a lot of time researching before purchasing the machine, pads and polishes. I have the Menzerna pads for most of the correction work - these pads are much stiffer than many of the other makes so can potentially do more paint damage if you aren't careful. However VAG and BMW paints are extremely hard so they need more aggressive polishing to achieve the same results as you would expect with softer paints. For example on my Golf I used a Menzerna cutting pad with Menzerna Power gloss which has a lot of cutting power and found that even that didn't correct some of the swirls. I don't know if that's due to the machine lacking in power but it had no trouble with correcting Volvo or Toyota paintwork which are both softer. As there's a lot of cut in something like Power gloss you need to follow it up with something like Final Finish PO106 FA to restore the clarity of the paintwork. This is very time consuming but is really worth the effort.

I followed that up with Clearkote red mousse glaze which helps to enhance the flake of the metallic paintwork.

Menzerna have a new(ish) polish which is supposed to be very suited to BMW and VAG paints - Menzerna Power Finish PO203s which you would still follow up with the Final Finish P0106 or P085RD and that's what I'll be doing on mine in the next couple of weeks.
A good place to buy stuff is cleanyourcar.co.uk

I use to moderate there forum :D

The DAS6, come to think of it any DA imo will not give a good enough correction on certain paints or paint that is very tired.
The next step up is roatry or getting a pro in for the job tbh but the results with DA are a serious cut above a by hand approach to paint restore/correction.
The menzerna kit will of worked very quickly and effectively on jap paint due to the jap paint being typically thin and soft.
Easy correction can be achieved on MG/rover as the paints are butter soft.

2 other potentials on the polishing side of things are meguiars 205 and 105 using there new micro abrasive formula.
IIRC the abrasives work constantly and divide where they fit in the polishing cycle by what pad and pressure you use them with.

Bringing an old post out of the wood work but plan to try some first steps in paint correction early next week ..
plan to get a DAS-6 (dodo buff daddy version) sold out and use lime prime ... question is which pads ..had planned to use dodo juice waffle orange and red but they are sold out...

would these work as a 1st timer ...

How about the DAS-6

I have the megs 220 Dual action and you would never get the same results just polishing by hand.
