Swirl marks here to stay or risk it for them to go away..?

Yep I'm in Swavesey (just out Cambridge) and I'd be intereted in having a good detail, having swirls removed etc.

I'm sure we might be able to get some other folks interested as well so you could do them all on a bit of a "road trip".

how should we get about doing this then? Need to raise as much awareness as possible.

I am happy to give the lads a few phone calls to check response + set up a new post (it will be in a weeks time when I am back from holiday tho!)

Tony, when are you next in London? Lets meet up for a quick chat about this?

Detailing....there's no wrong or right products per say. Different paints suit diff polishes/compounds/Waxes etc. You need to find what works for you.

For reference on BMW paint. A makita/DA etc with 3M Products/ Clearkote Glaze/ CG Sealants and Swissvax wax is a great and useable/durable combo.

www.detailingworld.com is a good source...but offen infomation overload.

I've got to say that I wouldn't be interested at £400 for basically what is a days work! I'm not tight but that just seems like a silly amount of money tbh.

I'm not saying it doesn't take skill etc but £400 for such a small car is too rich for my blood!

This seems like much better value:-

£150, I've left a message for Lee to give me a call.

Got a quote:-

That sounds much better value, if only he wasn't 220 miles away from me

I'm going to have a go at doing what I can by hand, either this weekend or next. I doubt I'll be able to do much about the light scratches though and my whole body will be broken by the end :|

I remember Lee from the S2000 forum.Pity he's so far away from me as I would trust him to do a good job.

I know someone who provides very reasonable prices, and I have used him before. He's based in Swindon, and I'm sure he would do a discount for more people to come and see him.

I'll drop him a line if anyone is interested. Might book the Z in.

headrat,

please let me know the results after tomorrow! I am still potentially keen on booking the car in but need to weigh up my options and shop around for the best.

Perhaps you can call him to negotiate a last minute deal for both of us so we both receive a nice discount? :P

Do you know if Lee takes paint thickness reading before machine cutting /polishing the paintwork? My friend had his car done by another detailer who hasn't taken the paint thickness level reading and over did his paint work.. Disaster!

Also do you know if Lee is able to do any dent removals?

If your near Kent i'd ask vxrmarc to help you out, doesnt do it for a living but for pure enjoyment so dont know if he charges or not (maybe a nominal sum to cover his products used).

Lee is here and has started work, he's got a better camera than me so he's taken photo's ;)

Hoping the rain stays off, fingers crossed.

The car is looking very nice, had a very nasty scratch on the boot which has completely gone which I'm very happy about.

Obviously photo's don't really do it justice, the car is looking great and swirls are gone, the paintwork is looking the best it has in all the time I've owned it!

Lee was at it from 10:00 to 17:30 and it came to £220, for the amount of time spent and the final result I'm more than happy.

Thank you very much for the photos and comments Headrat. What is your real name? maybe a point of reference when I talk to Lee..?

Looks great mate,

Looking forward to seeing Lees photos as not being funny yours dont really tell the story. Ie not enough detail. Best thing is to force the flash on your camera and take a photo of your reflection in the paint. also arch and wheel shots are nice to have.

Did the paint get machine polished with a DA or rotary?

Looks great and a good price though.

Cheers

Yeah I'm sure Lee's shots will be better than mine, being the easter holidays I was trying to look after a demanding 5 and 7 year old at the time ;)
