Swelling bathroom cabinet-

Hi all a few months ago we had a bathroom makeover which included one of those white units that go from under the basin and behind the toilet(one unit)-just noticed though that there is a bit of separation at the bottom of one corner -any advice how to deal with it to prevent it getting any worse?-white gloss touch up?-white mastic?-thanks

When you say swelling is the wood bulging or is it 2 panels coming apart.

If it is an mdf cabinet then there's a chance it's absorbed some water could potentially mean the wood starts flaking away... If you can I'd return it should not be doing that to me suggests not for for purpose claim under sale of goods act. But if returning is out of the question then try to dry it out first before you seal it, gloss touch up paint should do on any exposed wood

Sounds almost certain to be water absorbtion. Depending if it's from the basin dripping or sucked up from a wet floor. In any even it means the unit is not sealed and it will simply get worse and balloon up.

You have to start by curing the water source and hope if it's minor it gets no worse, however I have to say that once MDF swells it a one way process and can double in thickness pretty quickly.

I would also call the installers back as they have not effectively sealed it or left you with a leak.

(of course this assumes you're not coming in some nights pissed and missing the loo :) )

I think it is getting the odd spray from the shower-agree with what you are all saying tho.

Can you describe or post a photo of where the damage is? If everything is well sealed the odd shower spray should not get absorbed. Usually comes from standing water or persistent minor leaks.

You can then decide if the installer should have done a better job fitting/sealing or you're subjecting it to unreasonable wetting

Its just on the bottom corner but the units are supposed to be waterproof ffs-i will contact the fitters tomorrow.
