There are also many many roads which are absolutely flawless, with perfect pitch black asphalt and awesome scenery.
I moved here from Romania about 6 years ago. I find fuel, car taxes and insurance to be very affordable and depending on where you're coming from even cheap. Car service, actually any kind of service is a quite expensive but nothing that an average salary wouldn't cover.
Weather is also quite mild in the southern part, probably not that different up to Gothenburg. Although it's quite a gray place most of the year, precipitation is minimal and when it rains you won't be needing that often an umbrella, a hooded jacket would do.
Back to roads, they are very well maintained and even if one gets rough in time, they fix it quite quickly. I do hate the fact that they cover many roads with a lot of gravel during winter and it takes a couple of months for it to naturally get off to the sides (many roads don't actually get cleaned up by somebody). I ride also motorcycles and this makes it particularly risky.
I do drive my Zed almost daily, including during winter time and I think people are overly protective with theirs. I think it's mostly because paint jobs here are so expensive that it's probably cheaper to sell and buy another car than repaint it
BMW is quite a popular choice of car make here so you'll find dealerships and service places everywhere. Once you'll learn the language, you'll also find many clubs and car enthusiasts to share the passion with. (And yes, I would add the language requirement at the top of the list with negative things - regardless of the fact that everybody here can speak English.)
