Swap seats (backrests)

Bolster on driver side standard leather electric seat is fairly worn. As the drivers side has the memory function bit, is it possible to keep the drivers base where it is and swap the backrest with the passenger backrest? Searched the forum but couldn't find an answer to this. I presume if it could be done there would be various posts describing how-to?

The seatbelt holder would be on the wrong side, so you'd have to switch the holders over. However, this would leave you with holes in the seat where the holder had been moved from. Also, I'm not 100% sure if the seat backs are symetrical either.

It's ok as a temporary measure, however you'd be best getting the worn parts repaired, or find some replacement seats from a breaker.

if its the foam thats worn why not get a new seat foam from our friendly bmw garage and if its the leather thats badly scuffed try the scuff master stuff to re-die it?

im sure a decent trimmers would be able to help

Tried scuffmaser stuff last year but bolster has got slightly worse since then and there is now a slight tear in the leather. Figured a straight swap of the backrests would provide an ideal and economic solution as passenger seat is like new. Would also give me an excuse to get the seats out and clean all the crap and gunk under those impossible to reach seat rails! Andrewr has a valid point though. The seatbelt holders would need to be changed to the other side leaving I presume some ugly holes/marks. However, having had a quick look earlier today, I think leaving the existing holders where they are and buying two new ones for each seat (if they can be purchased) would actually look ok and not out of place. Any other members had a go at a swap of the backrests? Ultimately, may need to source a new seat or refurbish as suggested!

You should be able to pick up the seatbelt holders from a BMW dealer. Try Sopers, and you'll get a forum discount. They still won't be cheap though, I recently bought a seatbelt holder for the z4m seats, if I remember correctly this was around £40 per side. You could actually run without the seatbelt holder, however I'm not sure if there'd be any safety implications with the seatbelt being out of position?

Andrew.
