Swap 255 with 245 or 265 R18

Hello,

My front run flat Tyres needs changing and I wanted to change it to Non-Runflat ( almost everyone in forum recommends that). I will change all 4 Tyres to Non-Runflat to be safe. I have decided on Bridgestone Turanza T005 and Costco will be doing discounts on Bridgestone starting today till early December.

Car = Z4 E89 23i
Front = 225 / 40 / R18 ( Costco have these )
Rear = 255 / 35 / R18 ( Costco DO NOT HAVE these, help needed)

I have no idea in tyres and prefer to follow the OEM recommendations, but sadly Costco do not have the rear. They have 245 / 35 / R18 and 265 / 35 / R18 . Can I use them on the rear , will they fit? If yes, would you recommend 245 or 265? My wheel is BMW LA Wheel Vspoke 294 ( it looked like a star with a lot of bullet holes on the side)

If I can’t use either of them, I guess I will change the front first and drive with the Non-Runflat front and Runflat at rear for about 1/2 weeks then swap the rear with the oem 255 after ordering online.

Thanks!

Bridgestone do the Turanza in that size 255/35r18Y(94), so if your local Costco can't get them, I'd order them from somewhere else (i.e. Camskill have the rears for £105 and fronts for about £75).

A small change to the width, without changing the sidewall ratio, will give you a different overall diameter/circumference which will affect the speed/acceleration/fuel economy...admittedly not a lot (about 1%).

The 245 would be no problem, but not sure if the 265 would cause any rubbing issues, so someone with an e89 is probably in a better position to answer that.

The standard 255 on a 8 & 1/2 J is considered as by some as "too much tyre" for the Zed really. I have 255 on my 224's and they're 9J.
I'd either stick with OEM or 245 personally. If you do go with 245 then it'll be slightly cheaper as well :thumbsup:

Thanks for the info. The price for £105 at rear is surprising ! The other website I have looked into were mostly around £130~, I will definitely look into Camskill.

With that price I happy to get the OEM recommended ratio for the piece of mind. It should be fine to run on a mixture of Non-Runflat (front) and Runflat (rear) for a short period of time right ?
