Suspension upgrades?

Hi,

I have a 2.0 SE on 18" wheels with non-runflat tyres and I'm looking for advice on possible suspension upgrades. I'm not particularly interested in lowering the car - a few years ago I had a lowered MG TF and I don't miss living in terror of speed bumps - but I'd like the car to feel happier going round corners quickly.

Are there any good upgrade kits on the market, or would I be better off looking to change the car for a 2.5 Sport, or something?

Thanks!

Depends what floats your boat really.

If you want suspension upgrades then a bilstein b12 kit is a good starter for 10 - it will improve damping control without compromising the ride height too much.

My personal opinion would be to first upgrade the power, as with suspension mods you may find it hard to get it moving around. But I realise at the same time there are many factors which result in the choice of car so if the 2.0 ticks the right boxes for you then go for the suspension :)

More power would be nice! When I got the Z4 the priority was something that wouldn't be a lot more expensive than the TF to run, whilst not falling apart every five minutes and costing a bomb in repairs like TF was, and the Z4 has delivered exactly that, whilst also being a lot more comfortable and actually keeping the weather outside the car!

It might be heresy to say it here, but my Z4 doesn't inspire as much confidence going around corners as the TF did, and I'd like to see if I can do something about it. Running costs aren't as much of a problem now, so if swapping to a Sport would improve the handling, then I might well swap to one of those with a bigger engine.

The TF (I'll whisper this) is supposed to be pretty good to drive from what I've heard.... By comparison the zed will probably feel a little more of a blunt instrument.

My experience having gone for the coupe off the bat with the 3.0si engine is that even this is a little over-tyred. It's got a lot of grip, and you can happily mat it in 2nd without the tyres spinning. My point being I'm not sure if fitting sports suspension would then highlight the lesser power and leave you a little bored? Now this may well not be the case for you, but it sounds like you're at the more enthusiastic end if the driving spectrum so might be worth looking for a bit more power before then maybe looking at suspension mods?

I'm by no means selling the sport suspension as the solution btw - I got rid of that on my car in March and the b12 kit replacing it is a fair bit better!
