Suspension replacement

Firstly, thank you for all of you that have posted up about the process of replacing the suspension on the e89. It will make the job a lot easier once I get the parts.

I am considering upgrading the set up on my car, but would like to hear from people that have done it, and take advise on the best makes and set ups for the car.

I do not want coil overs, just a direct replacement / upgrade to the stock set up.

Cheers

Bilstein B8s are an uprated direct replacement on m sport variants..if not a msport then slightly lower springs supplied by Bilstein or bought direct from Eibach

Improved the medium and high speed handling especially over bumpy roads, slightly jiggly at low speed over broken services although that seemed to disappear/ reduce with bedding in..

I fitted H&R anti roll bars at the same time so can’t quite isolate how that may have affected the set-up..

Obviously other shocks are available but a good trade of on price / performance / support.

The B6 is the direct replacement which should offer an improvement over tired oe shocks..no need to change springs if non msport

Thanks very much for the suggestions. What are the prices like or any recommendations on where to buy from. Having looked online the prices seem to be all over the place.

My car is on the M Sport setup currently.

Cheers

Suggest you tap in Bilstein B8 shock absorbers E89 BMW into your favourite search engine..plenty of suppliers at varying prices I would expect about £800 ish plus your time/cost of fitting....

I would buy from someone that clearly offers support /service as they are re-build-able and some seem to suffer from early life failures..

On my car at 7 years old and 30k miles on Z4 runs I would get bottoming out / rubbing plus wallowing before..afterwards none of the above..

I’ve run Billy’s on a few cars now. For the price they’re a huge improvement, though the Koni’s I once had were probably my favourite

My suggestion would be to simply replace with bmw parts. They will be very much an upgrade over old worn out shock absorbers! If you actually want to improve handling, upgrade the control arms to M3 items and change the anti roll bars.
With the exception of the anti roll bar you've then got a vastly better driving car without any aftermarket parts.
