Suspension recommendations...

E89 (2014) on standard non M-Sport suspension.

I want to look at the most cost effective option, but don’t know where to start... shocks, springs, spacers :headbang:

Obviously because of the rear width, I don’t want rubbing on the arch or liner :poke:

Thank you!

From what I have researched, Bilstein B8 shocks with eichbach springs seems to be a good fit for the Z4, depending on what your budget allows. Lowers the car around 25 - 30mm but has a very big impact on the handling in a positive way.

I fitted the Eibach springs on my 35i ten days ago and replaced the rubber spring seats. I prefer to replace/upgrade my suspension in stages till it 'feels right' for my driving style/comfort as opposed to going all in and not liking the result.
My local indy fitted the springs for £180 inc VAT and the car is transformed in cornering and also surprisingly ride comfort as well!
On unpacking the springs the first thing I noted was the wire used by Eibach is around 20% thicker than the standard spring!
As for lowering the car, mine hardly dropped at all on the rear and around 5mm on the front, possibly due to the fact that I replaced the badly indented rubber spring seats.
To sum up handling, i had a bike up my butt on the road coming out of Cornwall up to Saltash yesterday, the single lane goes to dual on uphill sections so I floored my car (stage 1 map at 385BHP and 415lb/ft) with all 'safety systems' off. On the uphill curve he could not gain ground on me and he was laid right over peg scraping! So, yes I am happy. I will go for Eibach anti roll bars next before shocks...

[ref]Pooltee[/ref], I could probably get away with 50mm :D... but was a little concerned about the wide rears. I'll take a look at the Bilsteins- Thanks

[ref]mcbutler[/ref], Do you work for Eibach
I want to improve handling, but my priority right now is to get it looking good, I'll need AT LEAST a 30mm drop all-round!

I wish 8)

The Bilstein B8s with the Eibach springs or the Bilstein B12 kit which is the B8s with Eibach springs as a bundle are both marked improvements especially when age/mileage will have eroded whatever capacity the OE suspension ever had..

Price wise the B12 kit could be more price competitive..

Konis are regarded as superior but they have a price premium..

I personally don’t know, that I can recollect, anyone with an E89 with Konis..but there are several happy customers with the B8s..

I run the B8s with my OE msport springs and very happy with the ride comfort / handling trade off...

There are some reports of Bilstein quality not being perfect but how much wear n tear those units had is unknown..

The B8s are serviceable albeit with attendant downtime as they have to be sent away..

You could go cheaper by using better alternative shocks from Spax , Bilstein B6 on their own or with the Eibach springs that would get you down to £300 ish..

As usual its a price / performance trade off..

Just fresh dampers would be a noticeable improvement..depends whether you want a bit of lowering too?

Dont matter how fast you pedal, you can only lean so far...........

I'm sure I recognise those wheels - they look fantastic.

I can't offer any input regarding suspension mods though, but I hope you can find a set up you like!

Iain.

Mr Tidy, thanks yeah... I’m pleased. Not the most flattering pic, but serves the purpose.

You're right, they look so much better in the flesh.

I much prefer the look of the 290s on my 3 Series too.
