I've just ordered some lovely csl reps and have FK springs ready to go on, while I'm at it..what else should I do? Top mounts, drop links?

I've done the front ARB's and lolipops but have a rear knocking.

All opinions welcome! :)
 
droplinks are nice and cheap - might aswell do them while you're at it.

also.. check those brakelines while you're under her.. corrosion can be a b*tch on them!

Check the topmounts, but I'm not aware of anyone reporting issues with them.. I've certainly not had issue, and I've probably got one of the highest mileage zeds here now ;)
 
My top mounts is fine too, car done over 102k now ;)

Ok great stuff. Only done 58k so will leave them. Service 2 looming next week- trying to do most myself, but we'll see. Rear knocking likely to be ARB bushes?
 
how do you check the links? just jack it up and try to wobble the wheel? i have a clunk on rough ground that sounds like a worn bush or something so would like to track it down.
 
Checking suspension for wear etc is part of the inspection.....why not let them tell you whats worn?
 
Fair point..but due to a general mistrust of garages and the want to get under the car as much as I can to learn I'm thinking I may as well change the usual culprits like drop links etc

Where does the 'clunk sound like it is coming from. The wheel area or does it sound like its from the engine bay? I had a problem with the strut braces slackening and giving a 'knock'
If its the links you should see it with the wheel jacked.
 
its hard to say, ive had plenty of ropey cars and non ropey cars with little knocks. in my focus it was the cheappo exhaust that wasnt quite the same shape as the original... anyway

whilst i will be happy leaving it up to a garage, im also comfy with replacing small bit like this if its worn. (see my other post) im not sure how long my inspection is due off so if its obvious and straight forward to do then why not? i did the clutch on my other car last week and that involved taking the engine out.

the clunk is only noticable on really bumpy roads. (liverpool is good for them) but mainly on my drive or the car park at work where your going slow. they are that gravel stone squashed into the ground type affair where holes just appear, the car park used to be building.

it sounds like its from the front, its sort of a low level clunk rather than a rattle. very similar to a bush thats worn or if soemthing is hitting a stop of some kind. you cant really feel it thought the floor or steering. its not loud at all so only audible when going slow over rough ground. its not the sounds of stones hitting the underside.

at first i thought it was just a normal ish noise for the suspension moving about. but from other posts suggestions that the drop links fail easily im wondering if its these. its nothing that i am very concerned about, thes steering is fine and precise. there is no slop in it. when driving i'm not getting any of the signs where it jumps or moves suddenly and im not getting any kind of odd tyre wear so a little looksee is probably worth it
 
Check your strut braces as a starter.
Your right ..........why not get in and see if you can sort it your self. :thumbsup:
