Hi,

Help please, just joined so hello.
changing my old suspension, top mounts, bushing all round, on 03 e85 z4
using car on road only, but fast around corners..

spax rsx, koni sport, apracing, bilstein b12, not sure what to go for? what would be a nice fast road set up or are they all the same really,i like the spax as you can adjust them really easy, the koni fronts are ok to adjust, but rears need to be removed to adjust rebound, having adjustable hight and rebound is not a big selling point, just looking for a sporty ride not so stiff that im hoping about on back roads..
any ideas??, have seen some spax rsx for £500, koni for about £600-650, b12 £650+..

should i stick with oem for bushings, or meyle ones or...??

thanks.

I'd go for polyurethane bushings.
Especially ARB bushings, front control arm bushings and rear trailing arm bushings.

As far as suspension goes, coilover sets with linear springs give quite a bit less comfort, especially on the poor UK roads but do give gains in control.

was thinking poly on the roll bars, control arms done and bushings by lemforder, comfort's not really a problem, its more of the handling on bumpy roads, the z4 handles different to other cars i've owned, might just go with the spax rsx as there easy to adjust if i find them too stiff..have seen some people with h&r springs on the spax rsx struts, but maybe koni :headbang: , god knows, might be time to flip a coin
thanks for the reply..

I don't think these cars need coilovers for road use. Mine handles great on Bilstein B4's and eibach springs. Can't say I've felt like I've needed better suspension down the country lanes around here.

An engine bay strut brace feels like it tightens the front end up also.

I also polybushed my arb's with powerflex purple, aswell as the front wishbone rear bush (lollipops) and rear trailing arm bushes, which have superpro poly bushes installed.

Feels great to drive. It's just the twitchy steering I have a major problem with.

cheers.. will fit poly's but will go oem or meyler ones on the strut top mounts, only reason why i was looking at coilovers was the price, seem to be around the same price point as koni's and b12, but the adjustable rebound would be nice as its easy to get to on the spax rsx thats why i was leaning towards them..but was not sure on the ride even at its softest setting on the rsx?, might be harder then the bilstein or koni's,
what ever i put on will be a drastic change to how it is at the moment..

twitchy steering is a z4 thing i think, i've had bad sticky steering in the summer after leaving the car in the sun all day so bad that it wont return to center its like the power steering stops working for a while, goes away after a short while though.., could be tie rod ends?

I - like many others on here are really considering long and hard about coilovers vs. bilstein B4s/8s at present. Currently drawn no conclusions - half considering getting gaz pro golds revalved for road use, but I'm not sure where to go with it. I basically want to out-turn a cayman, but retain a spine.

Last month I put on standard Sachs/Boge dampers, eibach springs, new front drop links, rtab and lollipops. After a wheel balance and finally getting it properly aligned close to ///M spec it has entirely transformed the car. Turn in is much sharper and it generally feels more planted all through the corners.
Haven't had it on anything else other than the old worn standard parts for comparison but I'm more than happy with the results.
Didn't go poly as it's my daily and the roads near house are terrible. Was going to do the front ARB bushes but they sent the wrong ones but I'll do them soon.

just ordered the spax rsx, £503 delivered from demon tweeks, should be here by the weekend...gone for a mix of poly bushings and stock, cant wait, will make a massive improvement

do i need shorter drop links?? not sure, the oem ones fit, but not sure if the rollbar will act different as its lower with normal size drop links, not really going much lower than stock, about 15mm front and back... also the spax rsx for the z4 have adjustment on the top of front shock and on the side of the shock body on rear.. haven't driven it yet as have it on jack stands still,,few more bits to do...
