Surrey/Berks/Hants Meet - 14 June 2020 - Subject to dry weather!

I may well venture down with Lucas in our Coupes.

Any idea what time you plan on leaving Ockham Bites for Newlands Corner?

I was hoping we'd leave Ockham Bites by 9, but it may be a bit later depending how long the bacon rolls take!

Yes it was a good turn out, but I suppose we've all been waiting to get our P & Js out for a drive!

And as Nick said good to meet some newer forum members, as well as a few I haven't seen for a while, and thanks to "ZedPhwoah" for the photos.

Luckily we all made it to Newlands Corner, despite me missing the turning and having to double back. Maybe I should stick to static meets!

Anyway forum member TONYMOR pm'd me recently to say the landlord of the Black Sawn expected the next Classic Car event to take place on 12 July, but I'll post something nearer the time.

Thanks for organising Mr Tidy, some pics of the trip

When's the next one!? I'd like to make sure it's in the diary and I don't have to bail!

I have been away from here for too long, but would certainly make an effort for the next one. I can't believe I haven't seen Mr Tidy's or Ed Doe's Ms in the metal.

Rick! Its been ages, I do hope you're well?!

Sadly my bottom end let go at Goodwood on Saturday last weekend - First trackday in the car too, properly gutted :( I'll pop along for a meet up and a coffee if I can still though, suspect the M will be in the garage for rebuild for a little while now! :(

Sh*t!!! Spun a shell? I'm sure all sorts of things are running through your head right now, but I hope you get it sorted economically.

Pics look great, folks - hopefully see you all down at the Black Swan sooner rather than later. :)

Yup - spun a shell :( had the car recovered to twg, they found swarf in the filter so it's confirmed. I'm currently finalising scope of work with hack engineering - it's going to be the most expensive bill I've ever had for a car, but I'm hopeful it'll be done properly this time (it's already had a full brand new block, crank rods etc etcunder warranty from bmw 14k miles ago, I purchased the car partly on the basis I'd be avoiding this exact situation). :( oh well

Ouch - really sorry to hear that Ed. :(

I've already discovered it seems to be the scariest part of M ownership, especially as the mileage gets higher! I'm currently waiting for an analysis of the oil following my Inspection 2.

I just hope you can get yours sorted properly and without too much pain to your wallet.

And if the Black Swan event does happen next month hopefully we can have a good turn-out - although I reckon it will be pretty busy!

How long ago was the motor put in at bmw ?

All parts have 2 year warranty

14k for a brand new bottom end to fail again is very poor

Perhaps good will maybe in order , even if your out of warranty period

Sorry for the thread hijack of sorts but just to answer the posts above - it's rotten, I had an oil analysis done on the last oil with no copper found at all. Make of that what you will.

The engine was rebuilt 14k miles ago, but also 3 owners and 8 years ago so I've no hope or desire to tske it back to bmw. I don't know what the cause is yet but to me it seems odd for it to have failed so soon after a rebuild when some s54s have been known to do hundreds of k and loads of hard track miles on standard shells without failing. To me it points to either being ragged from cold by a previous owner, or a fault with the rebuild. Who knows. Hoping it'll be bulletproof after it's been rebuilt now though!
